jean + charles are quite alike in this way. despite their different backstories, they mesh so well as mentor + mentee/protégé because the experience of helplessly experiencing loved ones' pain defines their relationship with their telepathy + sense of responsibility to the world
The fact that her powers were awakened by her friends death and she’s willing to experience that again and again just to comfort others in their final moments esp because she knows what it’s like to die…she’s so familiar with death it makes me sad
