I'm working with a local NGO that can offer support in many ways: contacts with local or central authorities, access to data, help in implementing your field/lab/online experiment...

@JohnHolbein1 @VinPons This is the first time (at least in France) that many experimental econ labs collaborate and share their subject pools.

@JohnHolbein1 @VinPons We implemented the same method to study the long term effect of one of our nudges on turnout in the context of 2022 legislative elections. Results are here:

@JohnHolbein1 @VinPons Doing this for 4k subjects would have been extremely costly. Our probabilistic method (doing it for a small sub-sample) is low cost. In our case, all our subjects (except 1 out of 90) reported truthfully. incentives were high: 120€ if correct, 20€ otherwise.

@JohnHolbein1 @VinPons In France, any voter has access to the voting registry in any location for about 2 weeks after the election (actually, we found out that the period during which one has access to the registry varies depending on the location). So you can check (manually) if someone voted or not.

@JohnHolbein1 @VinPons We informed subjects that some will be randomly selected to receive a bonus for the participation. The bonus size depends on whether what they self-reported corresponds to what they actually did. For a very small sub-sample, our team checked the voting registries.

@JohnHolbein1 We recruited about 4k subjects from 8 locations and randomly assigned to one of four conditions. To measure actual voting behavior, we implemented a method silmilar to @VinPons et al.'s in APSR, but our method is very low cost to implement.

@JohnHolbein1 Experimental econ labs have access to thousands of young people. We decided to use this as an opportunity: we collaborated with 8 experimental labs in France to test the effect of nudges on thousands of subjects prior to the 2022 French presidential election. The labs 👇

Some context: turnout for young people is significantly lower compared to older voters. This is the case in most countries. @JohnHolbein1 has a very nice book on that with a focus on the US.

How to identify the effect of some intervention on voter turnout with no admin data about turnout at the ind level? We designed an innovative incentive scheme to measure the impact of nudges on actual voting behavior in two French elections:

What works best to change diets: nutritional labels or price policies? It's a part of the titanic battle pitching behavioral vs traditional economists: cues or incentives? In our lab setting, labels win. Working paper (with Muller, Ruffieux) https://t.co/amCAp7f6Tz 🧵:
