I recently cycled around Suffolk, my home county, keeping a wildlife list along the way - 250 miles, 117 bird sp., 18 butterfly sp., 14 mammal sp., and a few dodgy tan lines later, some thoughts and highlights are in the thread below.

This great black backed gull was rung as a chick in Denmark in 2011, when I was 9. It was then resighted a mile from my home, in Suffolk, UK, by @Leostoff in 2018. Fast forward, and @gardenbirder1 has just spotted it a mile from my current home in Northern Denmark. So cool!

Pretty cool to find the remains of a predated young jay! The bird was predated by a mammal, likely a fox, which you can tell from the chew damage on the secondary covert feathers πŸͺΆπŸ¦

New blog from #BTOYouth @aliciahaydenart exploring bird ringing & birding from the perspective of a woman reclaiming her identity & love for ornithology in a sector that, although joyous, is subject to issues like sexism & bullying.➑️🎨🐦

Recent #stormpetrel and #nightjar catching for science. Incredibly lucky to see these elusive birds up close along with the #Auroraborealis during one of the recent night shifts. Absolute bliss!! (Bird caught and handled under licence)

Gorgeous scenes in Northern Jutland, Denmark. Extensive sand dunes full of skittering sand lizards, transitioning to acidic heath/scrub land full of chatting red-backed shrike. Two vagrant #swallowtails (#svalehale) were lovely to see too!

If you're interested, please comment below so I can estimate the order to place with the printing shop on Thursday 18th July. Thanks again for the support - I wasn't expecting it to reach so many people, but nature can always do with more attention - and financial support ;) πŸŒΏπŸš΄β€β™€οΈ

Although I have produced prints before, I am not a professional artist and don't have an online shop, so it would be an informal order process, limited prints, and a ~ 2 week turn around. Prints would be A5, and Β£8, with free postage, and approximately Β£4 going to SWT.

@suffolkwildlife are currently fundraising for a new Worlingham Marshes reserve on the Suffolk Broads. Having grown up attending lots of childrens and youth activities with SWT, this new project is close to both my home and heart.

Thank you for the support on my recent cycle around Suffolk post! I've since painted this picture to remember the trip, which I am thinking of getting produced as prints, with all profit going to the brilliant @suffolkwildlife.

With the political pivot seen today, and the brilliant news of the @GreenpartyukRBX Waveny Valley seat, hopefully we will see a shift in government policies to better support, protect, and value #suffolknature. Thank you for reading!

Admist appreciation, it is impossible not to think of human activity. Historical agri production demands drained regional wetlands and ploughed heathland, while further intensification has nearly eradicated nightingales & turtledoves from their remnants of past breeding habitats.

There were many highlights to the trip but most memorable were ones the meals on wheels facilitated - breakfast with spoonbills, lunch with skylarks and woodlarks, and tea with a little owl family to name a few!

The Suffolk coast was a cacophony of noise - breeding gull and tern colony squabbles and avocet, curlew, oyc, and black-wit alarms to overhead marsh harriers. Spotshanks, ruff, and wigeon hinted at autumn being just around the corner.

West Suffolk downland brought miles of dirt tracks through pea fields, along with warbler and butterfly rich scrubland, and a wobbly roe fawn who mistook me for mum!

Historical heathland management of the Breks, and the resulting threats to endemic species, was interesting to learn about. It was great to hear of landscape restoration projects and spot a few broods of stone curlew.
