Is Biden running ads yet based on Four Seasons Landscaping, injecting bleach into people to stop COVID, etc.? The tagline: “I’m Joe Biden, and I remember this clearly — do you?”

I wish UI would go back to visible text fields rather than having to guess which “tap here!” text is actually a form entry.

A well-deserved award for Paul. He’s also the hardest working person I’ve ever worked with and taught me so much about cryptography and how a small team can make a huge difference.

Applications missing from Spotlight results on macOS Ventura? Fix: uncheck “Applications” in the list of Spotlight return results from System Settings / Siri, reboot, and then re-check it. Reindexing with mdutil -E did not work.

TLV encoding should not be the foundation a certificate is built on.

Why isn’t anyone blaming the X.509 standard, whose complexity leads to unwanted malleability in certs? Better to have every bit of the cert covered by the signature so any change invalidates it.

I overlaid some of @trvrb group's analysis of effective Reproductive Number over time since a variant first starts spreading. XBB.1.5 appears faster and more sustained than ANY of the variants since Omicron's first wave last January. Current Rt 1.6-1.8

Thanks to @trvrb for creating and updating this variant tracker from Pango data.

This looks more like BA.1's path in late 2021, unfortunately also during the winter holidays. I hope that isn't the case and XBB.1.5 begins to slow, but it has extensive immune bypass.

XBB.1.5 has maintained Rt 1.6 for about 4 weeks and doesn't seem to show signs of slowing. See that red straight line on the log chart? Now compare it to the arcs of all other recent variants.

Prior to XBB.1.5, omicron subvariants followed a pattern of appearing at a high Rt ~1.5 or so but then declining after 4 weeks to 1.2 - 1.1. This might indicate growth was due to targets of opportunity: waning or lower immunity from lack of recent infxn.

Where are the articles on XBB.1.5's growth? Not only is it growing more rapidly in the US than other variants, but it has maintained a high Rt ~1.6 for much longer than any recent variant.

More stories about crypto and embedded systems, this time covering the 2000’s. Hope you have as much fun listening as I did remembering them.
