After the 2008 Olympics:
• Dwights DPOY season
• A slightly better (than 08) season for CP3
• LeBron’s breakout year and first MVP
• Rejuvenation for D-Wade
• 4th championship & historic season for Kobe
The momentum & knowledge these players took with them. Greatness
A lot of people are clowning on him recently with Clippers success, but does that take away the merit of what he said regarding events spanning ~5 years or so?
Mavericks TV analyst Brian Dameris was not on the broadcast for last night's Clippers vs. Mavericks game
James Harden and the Clippers extended their winning streak to 9 games after defeating Dallas last night 😅

Cade Cunningham tonight:
• 30 Points
• 12 assists (0 Turnovers)
• 61.5% TS
• 10/10 from the FT line
• 2/4 from 3
• 4/6 in the R.A.
Detroit’s losing streak is over. No Piston deserved the win more than the rising star
Jimmy Butler’s playoff run (stats /75):
• 28.3 Points
• 7.6 Rebounds (2.5 Offensive)
• 4.7 Assists
• 2.1 Steals
• 60.4% True Shooting
• 71.6% on rim FGs (29% of shots)
• 12.0 RAPTOR (1st in league)
• 12.6 net rating swing (8.9 O, 3.7 D)
Top 5 player this playoffs.
Considering circumstances and market / feasibility - my home run hires for Michigan at DL coach & DB coach would be Greg Scruggs
& Corey Parker. In two make or break staff roles, I see both as assets on the recruiting trail, players’ coaches, and culture changers.
🧵
• Top 5 peak
• Underrated longevity/prime quality
• Clear best defender since the NBA merger
• One of the best PS performers in history, extremely resilient game
• Arguably the best two-way floor raiser given situation
Yet left out or at the bottom of t10 lists..
Cade Cunningham’s first 4 games back since the ASB (per game):
• 28.5/5.5/6.3
• 71.6% TS
• 58.9/57.1/80% splits
• +35
Hoping he can put together the best string of play in his career to close the 2023-24 season.

Only film that could point to this in 1996 Magic, 2007+ Shaq, and 2011 Duncan lol. Other than that, it's a gen z bot level take
Giannis’ 2019 regular season:
• 29.5 Points, +8.4 rTS
• 76.9% FG at rim
• 13.8 Rebounds
• 6.3 Assists
• 3.0 Stocks
Led the Bucks to a 12.1 nRTG, ~ +6 team Ortg / -6 team Drtg when on floor. Milwaukee had their first 60 win season in 48 years as well.
The clear MVP.
Most points scored in a singular playoff game:
• Michael Jordan: 63 (1986)
• Elgin Baylor: 61 (1962)
• Donovan Mitchell: 57 (2020)
• Jimmy Butler: 56 (2023)
Just speechless, can’t think of any superlative to even describe Jimmy’s play and rise-to-key-moments at this point.
Being able to anchor a 103 team defense (albeit a small sample) while stifling two stellar offenses, shoot 87% at the basket, and objectively be the most impactful player thusfar is the exact opposite of a team problem. When things aren’t clicking, the fake narratives comes out.
"I came on the air and talked about how Anthony Davis was a top-seven player. I take it back. Damn it, he don't look like it. ... What has happened to Anthony Davis?"
😳
@stephenasmith
2015 - Steph wins MVP over Harden because he’s the best player on the better team. The criteria for MVP is established as best player on better team.
2017 - Russ wins MVP because he has a historic season, despite Harden being the best player on the better team. The criteria…
Over an 82 game regular season, it's very much so Giannis and Jokic - then the rest of the league. Age is a factor compared to players north of 30, but they simply make high quality basketball and dominating look like second nature.
LeBron in 2021 at full health (/75):
• 27.7 Points on 61% TS
• 76% at rim
• 59.26% 2P / 36.7% 3P
• 8.6 Assists (84.6% Morey Rate)
• 10.1 net rating on
• ~ +5 team offense / -5 team defense
• 12.2 net swing
Best basketball at age 36 all time?
How much of a needle mover were these HOF vets though:
• 2022 and on Westbrook
• 2018 Rose
• 2019 and on Rondo
• 2022 Anthony
• 2010 O’Neal
• 2020 and on Howard
For an “eye test” person, production and player impact likely would out-class name value, would it not?
LeBron played with All-NBA guys in Wade, Davis, Bosh, Love, Kyrie in their prime and brought in HOF vets in Westbrook, Rose, Shaq, Melo, Dwight, Rondo as they exit the sport. Recruited Kawhi, PG, DeMar and Kyrie again.
Top 3 ever, but his formula very diff from Kobe, Tim, MJ 🤷🏽♂️
One of the most underrated careers and perseverance stories in this league. After 141 games, Al Horford is going to the NBA finals. At 35 going on 36, the journey continues.
As the Cavs have progressed from the top of the lottery to a near playoff team, a huge piece of their team’s growth has been the development of Darius Garland himself. DG’s combination of scoring and playmaking has proved to be valuable for Cleveland
Giannis in the last ~month of play:
• 33.5/11.5/5.9/1.7/1.1
• +67 (15 games)
• 68.4% True Shooting
Pretty valiant play from ‘a clearly declining player’ if you’d ask me.
Jimmy Butler just broke the Heat’s franchise record for points in an elimination, originally held by 2006 Dwayne Wade and 2012 LeBron James - two of the best playoff runs in league history. Special player and special run thus far.
Chris Paul’s underrated 2019-20 season:
• 20.4 Points on +4.5% rTS
• 7.8 Assists (82.7% Morey AST rate)
• 52.2% on Mid-Range Shots (57.3% of FG attempts)
• 2.9 AST: TO
• 14.7 ORtg Net-Swing (+6 relative team offense with CP3 on)
All of this greatness at 35 years old
I REALLY hope the Warriors run into the Thunder in the playoffs so that Curry can humble tf out of SGA. Remember this tweet if/when this happens because I promise you, the Thunder are getting SLAPPED. They lucked into playing Warriors while Kerr failed to figure out rotations.
Anthony Davis so far tonight:
• 24 points
• 72.6% TS
• 8/8 FT, 2/4 3P
• 1 block
• +7 in 16 minutes (+1 in 8 minutes for LAL with him off)
It’s only preseason 🏀 and there’s some reservations I still have, but I’m happy with what he’s done
The late great Wilt Chamberlain’s book “Who’s Running the Asylum” - in which he describes the play styles of Jerry West and Oscar Robertson.
Great detail paid towards two of the pioneers of modern day basketball- coming from an underappreciated basketball mind in himself.
Mike Conley is having a great season at *checks notes* age 36:
• 11.3/2.8/6.1, only 1.2 TOVs
• 63.1% TS
• 43.6% 3P on a 62.1% 3PAR
• Consistently + D
• MN has a 10.7 Net-rating with Conley on.
Playing mistake free, two-way 🏀 is one heck of a role player blueprint.
I don’t buy the Suns contender hype (could easily change my view seeing it play out). It’s way too reactionary,
they are solid on paper but it’s a depth and wings’ league. Not the greatest wing depth or defense now, and their three stars don’t pressure the rim.
@LAbound2
Boils down to three macro things. (1) Denver out-resulting the process LA gave them, a sign of a sure-fire contender. (2) Exploiting whatever holes they, and all of us for that matter, saw. (3) Putting together 5-10 minute spurts each game of vastly better play on both sides.
Lauri Markkanen’s last two seasons:
• 25.2 PPG
• 49.6/39.1/86.7 splits (63.8% TS)
• 8.6 RPG (2 ORBD)
• 8.3 TOV%
Don’t let the Jazz’s situation fool you, Lauri can be a valuable acquisition for a lot of good teams - especially those with an elite defensive anchor.
Anthony Davis’ 2014-15 season:
• 28.2 IA Points on +5.7% rTS , 72% of shots off of an assist
• 73.5% on rim shots
• 43.6% mid-range
• 11.2 Rebounds (2.8 Offensive)
• 30.8 PER
• 3.2 Blocks / 1.6 Steals
• 1.7 Blocks at rim
Anthony Davis underrating has completely gotten out of hand. There’s some areas that are underwhelming with him and some things he still does amazing on the court. When he’s maximized however, I still firmly believe he’s one of the ten best players in the league
Anthony Davis tonight:
• 55 Points
• 17 Rebounds (3 Offensive)
• 3 Blocks
• 22/30 from the field
• 9/9 from the line
• 81% True Shooting
• +17 in an 11 point win
Wills the Lakers to victory , while hitting the second most points of his career.
2014-15 Chris Paul (/75):
• 20.8 Points
• 59.6 TS% (+6.2% relative)
• ~50% on Mid-Range FGs
• 39.8 3P%
• 11.2 Assists (4.4 AST:TOV)
• 14.9 Box OC & 8.7 Passer Rating
• 2.1 Steals
• Led a +6.8 team offense (1st in NBA)
One of the most complete PG seasons ever
For what it’s worth, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all time status shouldn’t be reduced (the thought of doing so shouldn’t even be acceptable) now that he is no longer the NBA’s leading scorer. How great he was and how long he was great for…
Victor Wembanyama now owns the 2nd best odds to win DPOY, per
@BovadaOfficial
Rudy Gobert +550
Victor Wembanyama +750
Evan Mobley +800
Jaren Jackson Jr. +800
Anthony Davis +1000

LeBron James has broken basketball longevity. Love or hate the guy, or where you see him from a basketball standpoint all time - that's how the cookie crumbles.
Rest in peace to Bill Russell, one tweet in itself can't sum his influence on basketball, life, those around him, and social justice.
A hero and role model of mine, and a legend. The way Bill impacted the world will never be forgotten
2019-20 Luka Dončić (all /75 poss.):
- 31.2 Points
- 58.5% TS (+2 rTS), 75.2 FG% at-rim
- 9.5 Assists (85.1% Morey Rate)
- 8.3 Passer Rating
- Engined a +6.3 relative team offense (116.7 oRTG)
Was he the best 21 year old of all time?
Exploring Garland’s scoring further, nearly 39% of his FG attempts came from 3-Point range. On these, he shot 38.3% from (a mark decently above league average). Garland is also no stranger to tough quality, deeper ranged 3s - as seen on film.
Dating to 2019 - currently, Giannis and Brook Lopez have logged 5040 minutes together (factoring in both RS/PS play & excluding low leverage minutes). Their aggregate defensive rating in this span: 104.65. Furthermore, opponents shoot 46.07% on 2-point shots within this span.
With more time on my hands, my third Medium article is out. In this piece, I breakdown Jayson Tatum and Boston's phenomenal season turn-around and Tatum's impact amidst all this success. I hope everyone coming across this enjoys the opportunity to read!
Scoring (/75):
• 29.8 IA Points on +2 rTS
• .48 Shot Quality
• 37.4% on 3P shots
• 40.9% on Mid-Range shots (53% of scoring)
Considering T-Mac was responsible for a lot of his team’s offense and adjusting for quality, the numbers are remarkable
Victor Wembanyama in the 2024 calendar year (/75 poss., ~28 MPG in actuality)
• 29.4/13.1/5/1.8/4.7 on 60.9% TS
• 3 Blocks at the Restricted Area
• 37.6 3P%, 40 Short/Long Mid-Range%
• 71.1 Rim FG%
• +10.1 on/off (1.7 Net & 113.2 DRtg on court)
This is the nonsense that modern day NBA media coverage has resorted to. With speculation and little substance or evidence, trying to stir up the drama/circus affiliated with free agency and the trade deadline.
"LeBron James is sending a message to one Anthony Davis. ... Dallas' objective this summer is Kyrie for AD sign-and-trade. If AD doesn't ball in these last 23 games, the Lakers might look at something like that."

Shai had an amazing season and I won't take that away, but a guy who led his team to NINTH seed being 1st team is a joke. This play-in BS allows too much inclusion of guys who shouldn't be receiving the most prestigious awards of the NBA. Stop rewarding losers.
Oscar Robertson in the 1963 East Finals, / game:
• 33.4 Points
• 12.4 Rebounds
• 8.6 Assists
• 58.1% TS (9.6% > League Avg.)
Oscar’s Royals took the defending 4- Celtics to 7 games, putting up 118.3 PPG - just below their team’s RS average against a -8.5 team defense.
1988 Larry Bird pre bone injuries:
• 29.2 IA points
• 8.7 Rebounds
• 5.8 Assists (~11 Box OC)
• 1.6 Steals
• 52.7/41.4/91.6 splits
• 60.8% TS (+7 rTS)
Led a +7.4 relative team O-Rating, the best in NBA history at that point
Where does this rank as an offensive peak?
Players in NBA history to average 24 points per game while shooting >= 60% on 2-point Field Goals:
• LBJ (6X)
• Barkley (4X)
• Giannis (4X)
• Jokic (3X)
• Durant (2X)
• Williamson (2X)
• McHale (‘87)
• STAT (‘08)
• AD (‘23)
• Wilt (‘67)
• KAJ (‘80)
• Shaq (‘94)
Nikola Jokic tonight
• 41 Points
• 15 Rebounds
• 15 Assists
• 16/25 FG, 70.8% TS
• +12 in a 3 point win
• Most points in a triple double in NBA Christmas History
An offensive wizard, night in and night out
From today's Nuggets rotation projection article:
Spent a ton of time discussing individual positions and trying to show my work.
The most common rotation will likely be:
Murray/Bones
KCP/Brown
MPJ/Davon
Gordon/Jeff
Jokić/Nnaji
Much more perimeter D.
The four best pure scorers to ever play the game 👇🏽 Had no weakness in their arsenal, could torch you 15 different ways through the flow of the offense and give you 40 on

Most WC Goal Contributions in ⚽️ History:
Messi 🇦🇷 - 21 (13/8)
Pele 🇧🇷 - 20 (12/8)
(h/t

)
Tying Pele in assists in the semi-final match and surpassing his Goal total today, Lionel Messi continues to build on his unicorn resume. Very arguably the two 🐐s of ⚽️
I don’t know if this would warrant *such* a reaction, but the unanimous MVP vote should have been a result seen more often:
• 1971 Kareem (maybe another Bucks year)
• 1991/2 Jordan
• 2000 Shaq
• 2004 Garnett
• 2010/13 James
• 2016 Curry
All seem worthy of such honors.
Thrilled to have written my first article for
@TheDyspatch
, covering some of the most impressive age 23 seasons on offense in NBA history! If you enjoy the article, highly recommend checking out more content on the website
To conclude, these PS numbers are even more impressive than the regular season when considering Kobe faced all-time great defenses annually. His offensive play-style of tough shot making & scaling next to star talent gave him near GOAT level resiliency / production inelasticity
Real hoopers know this but there's a big difference between pure scorers and dominant scorers 👇🏽 All these guys scored at the highest level but it's two different styles.
Dominant scorers: Physically imposing and their arsenal is built around their athletic prowess. Speed,…
On the season, Garland Averaged on a /75 poss. basis and has posted the following advanced box stats:
• 22.8 Points
• (.4) relative true-shooting
• 9.0 Assists (6th in the league)
• 13.3 Box Creation (5th in league)
• 8.2 Passer Rating
In 167 minutes without Ivey or Cade on the floor, Detroit has a 100 offensive rating and -19.7 Net rating - yet Monty doesn’t stagger the two.
I get that it’s a small sample, but how and why isn’t this something a coach looks into and adjusts for?
Happy 86th birthday to the late great Wilton Norman Chamberlain, one of the best to ever play the game of basketball and just an all-around marvel. Thank you for leaving the NBA far better than you found it.
Steph genuinely doesn’t deserve this.. Him being as good as he is masked a lot of how stubborn / incompetent Golden State has been as an organization since 2019, and his reward is a circus show of a basketball product (Moody and Podz are cool though)
Michael Jordan’s prime pre-retirement is a great winning bias example. I believe 88-90 to be better years than any 92+ season in spite of the Bulls not winning pre-91. Goes to show cast does matter, as the situation around MJ got better as his career progressed.
