We are now at 229 rabbis and counting. We are calling out for ceasefire in one voice and urge Jewish organizations and individuals to join us. Torah is a tree of life. We must hold fast to that tree with all we have. CEASEFIRE NOW!
This morning, seven U.S.rabbis and Israeli activists were arrested by Israeli police at the Gaza border as part of a delegation of thirty rabbis and other peace activists with Rabbis for Ceasefire who were attemping to bring food supplies into Gaza through the Erez crossing.
As Rabbi Alana Alpert, one of those arrested, says, “How can we celebrate freedom as these atrocities are committed in the name of Jewish safety?” In the spirit of the holiday, we are putting our bodies on the line to fulfill our mandate to let all who are hungry eat.
The Israeli government is using starvation as a weapon of war against 2.3 million Palestinian people in the occupied Gaza Strip. This manufactured famine follows decades of forced displacement, military occupation, and communal subjugation by the Israeli government.
Jewish tradition tells us that eyn bodkin le-mezonot; when it comes to feeding the hungry, we do not ask who is a worthy recipient because it is cruel to starve a people, even an enemy, into submission.
Our statement on the US & allies defunding
#UNRWA
Passover reminds us of our sacred responsibility to work for the freedom of all people. We are here calling for a permanent ceasefire, the full exchange of prisoners, the opening of all border crossings to allow in humanitarian aid, and an end to the subjugation of Palestinians.
The Passover Haggadah reads, “Let all who are hungry come and eat,” and teaches us that we must work for the freedom of all people. Forced starvation is just one of the many weapons of war that the Israeli state is using against the 2.3 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
“There’s going to come a day of moral reckoning. The establishment Jewish organizations are going to have to look in the mirror and say, what did we do?”
Rabbi Brian Walt said, "As Jews called to remember our exodus from slavery, we are here to bring food to the hungry and to call for a permanent ceasefire, a freeing of hostages and all prisoners, and to call for freedom and justice for all who live between the river and the sea."
This delegation came to the Erez Border crossing on Passover carrying aid in coordination with UNRWA, an organization critical to providing international aid to avert famine and further catastrophe for the people in Gaza and which Israel banned from northern Gaza.
All are invited to join us for a weekend of Shabbat services & Torah study offered by the now 240+ rabbis.
In this time of crisis, join Jews (and friends!) in the ceasefire movement to lift up our hearts in rage, grief, hope and connection.

was created in the aftermath of World War II and the Holocaust, with the very intention of ensuring "Never Again." We are here as Jews, as rabbis, to urge the UN to follow through on this noble mission. Never again means never again for any of us.
Shabbat for Ceasefire is "an important consolidation of the Jewish left that obviously has been growing for decades before this time, but it’s really consolidating and emerging powerfully at this time when we need it most.”
We're looking forward to spending Shabbat in prayer and song with Jews (& friends!) in the ceasefire movement. This event is unprecedented: 251 rabbis, over 10 synagogues, 5 Jewish communal organizations calling in one voice, with the liturgy of our ancestors, for ceasefire NOW!

General Assembly already voted with an overwhelming majority for Ceasefire. But the
@USUN
is thwarting the efforts of the Security Council to take meantingful action for a ceasefire. The US is standing in the way of the international community taking action to save lives.
We are partnering with Faith for Black Lives and over a dozen other multifaith groups for a Pilgrimage for Peace from Philly to DC beginning on Ash Wednesday. All are welcome to march with us for the day or the week. More details can be found at
We are comforted to know that in the coming days fewer civilians will die in Gaza. And, we also know that a pause is just a pause. Our tradition demands that we prioritize saving lives. We will continue to pray, protest, write and gather until there is a complete ceasefire. 2/3

Today our hopes for a permanent ceasefire were dashed once again by the US veto of a UN resolution. We are so disappointed in our government for its refusal to act to save lives in Gaza. Our government continues to fail to stand up for basic humanitarian values. Shame.

Judaism teaches the importance of pursuing peace at all costs. We are directly instructed in this week's Torah portion, "Do not take vengeance, love your neighbor as yourself." Israelis and Palestinians are neighbors and their safety and survival are interdependent. -->

We recognize International Law, initially developed in response to the atrocities of World War II, as a necessary mechanism to safeguard the rights and safety of all human beings, especially in the face of massive violence enacted by governments on civilians within their reach.
3. To bring to the General Assembly a resolution calling for appropriate accountability measures in line with international law, including an immediate arms embargo.
1. To reaffirm and recommit to the goals of the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, taking meaningful action to stop the slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza.
This past shabbat we were blessed with the devastating, gorgeous words from

“We’re carrying this message to remind America of the values that she was birthed in and to be a leader in this moment to provide a moral vision for the world,” said pastor of St. Luke AME Church in New York City’s Harlem.
In this time of moral reckoning, we invite all to join Rabbis for Ceasefire for a virtual gathering to reflect on the ICJ decision, and to engage in the moral and spiritual work that can support us, and our communities, to engage in our ongoing work toward ceasefire.
Those among us who are physically removed from the crisis have both the opportunity and the obligation to hold our own pain up for examination and not allow it to prevent us from calling for an end to the current violence.

We also recognize the particular pain and heartbreak for many in our Jewish community that these allegations currently address the government of Israel.
This manufactured famine follows decades of forced displacement, military occupation, and communal subjugation by the Israeli government. The delegation calls for a permanent ceasefire, the opening of all border crossings to allow in aid, and an end to the siege on Gaza.
We continue to work and to pray for the safety of all civilians in Israel/Palestine, including all those in Gaza who are experiencing extreme life-threatening conditions, all hostages, and all who are impacted by the current war.
