Charlottesville’s Robert E. Lee statue has met its end, in a 2,250-degree furnace. The divisive Confederate monument, the focus of the deadly “Unite the Right” rally in 2017, was secretly melted down and will become a new piece of public art. More on the process:

One more photo of the cemetery in Terlingua on Día de los Muertos. You can see all of the graves with the candles lit on them as the sun sets. There was a car with its headlights on behind me, illuminating the foreground.

My latest. There has been a feverish attempt to deny that the conflict between Israel and Palestine has anything to do with European colonialism. So I went into British archival history and brought back some receipts

We’ve heard with great sadness that Tymbektoden Arara has died, just weeks after giving a powerful speech about his people’s rights at the UN. He was a leader of the recently contacted Arara Indigenous people of #Brazil.

One gauge of the civilian toll in Gaza so far: At least 72 United Nations staffers have been killed in Gaza so far, the UN says. Whatever that is, it's not surgical.
