Silent Spring's @robinedodson was recently featured on @TJamesTodd_PhD & @ERJ_Lab's new podcast Beauty + Justice to talk about toxic chemicals in beauty products -- especially ones marketed towards and used by Black women, as well was ways to prevent exposure.
Beauty + Justice looks at the history and context surrounding beauty injustices, the potential impacts on health—from asthma to early menstruation to breast cancer—and the sometimes painful emotional toll of trying to attain a certain beauty standard.

Another reason to be concerned about unregulated chemicals in beauty products that disproportionately impact black women. Rates of uterine cancer are increasingly rapidly--and we wonder why.
nytimes.com
A national study suggests a link to this particular cancer among women who reported frequent use of the chemical products.

Honoring Rachel Carson's legacy. @SilentSpringIns colleague Jennie Liss Ohayon wrote, "Why is the EPA still exposing women to pesticides linked to breast cancer?"

The EPA must update its testing to better capture the effects of pesticides on the mammary gland.

At #ISES2022? Please join me at the Environmental Justice session this afternoon. I’ll be sharing a new exposure tool for consumer product research developed for the Taking Stock Study.
She’s going to talk about her work on the Taking Stock study, which used a smartphone app to collect detailed product use information from Black and Latina women. @bhavnasham @BW4WLA @ElissiaPhD #ISES2022

Silent Spring found #PFAS in dental floss, including Oral-B Glide, in a 2019 study ( https://t.co/jWXy2ASbXz). We also found women who flossed with Oral-B Glide had higher levels of PFAS in their body. PFAS-free options exist. Why aren't more companies making the switch?
silentspring.org
Analysis shows association between Oral-B Glide dental floss and higher exposures
That nice waxy glide as you floss your teeth? Could be PFAS, the "forever chemical" that hijacks hormones and is linked to reproductive problems, birth defects, testicular cancer. #toxics
