This 6-week program was perhaps the most transformative event of my life, and many, many others feel the same way. But why? How? With 70 interviews and 200 hours of footage, I made this film to find out, for myself and for the audience, so more can be similarly transformed.

Sadly, Kelly passed in June of this year. He deeply transformed thousands, including at least 2 MacArthur Fellows.

Kelly had an absolutely fundamental impact on me as a mathematician, teacher, and person. His Hampshire College Summer Studies in Mathematics concentrates the joy of discovery and community of a 1st-rank grad school in math *for high school students!* Someone give him a MacArthur

Happy Yellow Pig Day from a proud alum of the Hampshire College Summer Studies in Mathematics @HCSSiM). Fun fact - I never knew until today that the yellow pig was 17 eyelashes! #MTBoS #ITeachMath

๐Ÿ™ https://t.co/rZieuouQkh https://t.co/8glXguRmRh Kelly founded the Hampshire College Summer Studies in #Math program in 1971, one of oldest math camps in USA. He influenced many people, who went on to make great contributions in math and out. https://t.co/i447t9LUXI

In summer 1979, after my 3rd yr in college, I had my first opportunity to teach. It was at the "Hampshire College Summer Studies in Mathematics" program for high school students. Try to spot @lirarandall, @eric_lander, Rennie Mirollo, @AlanEdelmanMIT, or anyone else you may know

In 2022 Alaska's debut of RCV changed everything. The results directly disproved almost every claim made by advocates and the failure set off a chain reaction of backlash, bans, and repeals around the country. Now Alaska's own RCV repeal hangs in the balance.

This election says anything about the American people and who we are or what we right now aspire to be as a nation. The people have NOT spoken.

Our system robs us of better choices. Our duopoly blocks any competition from 3rd parties. A democracy is supposed to empower the people with choices. Too many Trump voters didn't vote for Trump, but rather against Harris, and vice versa.

This is not democracy. We were forced to pick from only 2 people. Harris was chosen by elites in backroom dealings, and Trump was chosen via closed primaries rife with vote splitting.

Gotta love @ballotpedia unintentionally letting voters practice Approval voting (with literal STARS). Liking multiple things simultaneously is just human nature.

@representus Voting reform is super important! I want to help in any way I can! Does @representus only promote RCV, or are other voting systems on the table? Are you aware that IRV continues the Spoiler effect? With IRV you can't safely vote for your favorite candidate (Favorite Betrayal).

@sarabjustone @LinkofSunshine RCV doesn't fix this unfortunately; we actually saw this in Alaska. Their first election with RCV had 3 major candidates, and it was immediately spoiled, so this year the Republicans berated the other Republican candidate until she dropped out See also https://t.co/I0jSE1YFyX

@catturd2 Ranked Choice Voting is a centralized counting system which required 3 weeks to count 260,000 ballots in Alaska in 2022.

@RankMIVote #RankedChoiceVoting does not actually fix the wasted vote problem. Voting honestly may cause the Lesser Evil to be eliminated and help the Greater Evil win, just like under our current system.

Approval Voting is not just mathematically more fair than RCV, it's also easier to understand, cheaper to implement (no new equipment needed), and easier to audit. Risk-limiting audits are not feasible with RCV.

Gov Lamont stressed the continued use of paper ballots with new voting equipment. But the Lamont and Greenwich Democrats are also pushing Ranked Choice Voting, which makes us entirely dependent on computer algorithms to figure out the winner. https://t.co/frdtDt50uS

All of this pathology is due to the American voters' inability to rate each candidate on the ballot! @ElectionScience @TheEqualVote
