After a bitter slog with RFC 6295, I now have MIDI events sent from Ableton Live over Apple MIDI Network, to a Mega Drive ROM, running on BlastEm, emulating MegaWiFi. Phew. 😅 #megadrive #midi #abletonlive #blastem #megawifi

Why is RTP-MIDI so complex? Why bother allowing status octets to be optional for subsequent MIDI events in the packet? Isn't the 80s-era MIDI protocol bandwidth efficient enough?! 😓 #midi.

Wow! Turns out Wireshark fully interprets RTP-MIDI packets and fully describes the underlying MIDI events. That's going to be pretty useful for debugging/monitoring.

And now UDP! Unfortunately #megawifi UDP support is only available in #blastem nightly builds & only available for Windows (and I coudn't build the macOS code locally). Anyway, it works fine in Wine. Next step - try and establish an Apple Network MIDI session! 😅 #megadrive #midi

Hammer applied, and now I have an emulated Mega Drive ROM running with an IP address. Mind melted. 🤯 Guess I'll need to look into MIDI-over-IP tech now.

#BlastEm's #MegaWifi support looks like a way for my Mega Drive MIDI Interface to be ran and debugged entirely on a PC. But talk about using a hammer to crack a nut. Yet, is the eventual possibility of sending MIDI to the Mega Drive over WiFi insane enough to warrant a try?.

And in the latest version, the EverDrive LED will blink on the receiving of MIDI data over the USB (which is of course the killer feature 😁) #megadrive #everdrive #chiptune.

Just finished adding support for @krikzz's Mega EverDrive PRO to the Mega Drive MIDI Interface My naive implementation shows the PRO USB data transfer is at least 4x quicker than the X7 - not that the X7 was slow - both more than good enough for MIDI!.

Updated Mega Drive MIDI Interface (v0.4.0). You can now show FM channel parameters on screen using CC 83. It's currently unoptimised and very slow but I thought useful enough to get out in a release ASAP. #megadrive #midi #fmsynth
