Once you get a partner, your objective function changes by adding a non-trivial weight to your partner’s desires. The only difference is this dimension is only transparent to your friends and not you.

Warren Buffet went to Ben Graham and offered to work for free. Graham said to Buffet "Free is overpriced." A valuable apprenticeship is worth its weight in gold. Now, we can question whether working with Goyal is that valuable, which is the right question to wrestle with.

You can learn a lot about a person’s optimization function based on the role models in his life.

Most high school students over optimize on university quality and under on university experience. Latter way more important for the undergrad experience.

With each passing year I take non-linearly more time to pack. Like, how was I packing for a 5 week India trip in 30 mins in college?

If you want to improve your bias for action, make decisions like a greedy algorithm rather than an optimization one.

I've realized I enjoy minimalism in film too. Sicario is my favorite action film, Arrival is now my favorite sci-fi.

My best friend, a crypto founder, said he makes uninformed decisions all the time, let’s say 20% of the time. I said, by the time you become great you would’ve made so many intentional ones, the percentage will be 1%.

What differentiates the good from the great is that the greats make a lot of incorrect decisions, but almost never an unintentional one.
