From this spectrum obtained with just one transit, we only slightly prefer the atmosphere over the stellar inhomogeneities. On the plus side, several different atmospheric setups and retrieval scenarios all come up with high H2S/SO2 abundances

Spotting atmospheric signals on small planets is challenging. To add to that, sometimes stuff on the star (spots/faculae) can mimic those signals.

In this spectrum, we find tentative signs of H2S and SO2 in the atmosphere. While a bit smelly, these gases could indicate the presence of volcanoes or tidal heating. Exo-volcanoes! 🌋. But.

L 98-59 d is a super-earth orbiting a bright M-dwarf. We did a bunch of retrievals on its @NASAWebb NIRSpec G395H transmission spectrum. For more details on the data reduction, check out the excellent paper by @agressier_astro :
