Ridership is down about 80%. But we continue to carry people who need groceries, medicine and medical care. We also carry workers who ensure that groceries, medicine and medical care remain available to all of us. This is what makes transit an essential service.
Spotify Wrapped is here - with a transit twist. These routes saw the most riders in 2022

We are grateful beyond words to the Lummi Tribal Health Center for providing COVID-19 vaccines to 150 WTA employees today. Thank you for hosting us, thank you for vaccinating us, and thank you for helping us safely serve our community!
@lummicomm
We are so thankful to our transit operators, dispatch, and fleet & facilities team for keeping us moving today! From shoveling paths and clearing snow to chaining tires and replacing parts, many essential things need to happen to get our buses on the road.
In between replacing chains on buses, two of our Fleet Technicians (aka professional mechanics) are shoveling the walkways at Bellingham Station. Above and beyond, crew. Thanks!
We are Fare Free until further notice. Fixed Route and Paratransit. This allows us to increase Social Distancing. Please keep 6 feet between yourself and the driver, and between yourself and other passengers, whenever possible.

Congrats to our Employee of the Quarter, Butch!
Butch has shown exceptional regard and humanity for the public and towards his coworkers by being a calm, helpful, and kind presence on the concourse.
We are all lucky to have Butch on the team as an expeditor!
Today we're out delivering 53 boxes from the Food Bank to local families.
In addition to delivering to our paratransit riders, we're now bringing food to people who've sought assistance through
@WUEmergencyMgmt
.
Thanks to everyone for demonstrating good Social Distancing on our buses, for giving our drivers extra space, and for your kinds words of appreciation when you step on/off the bus.
WTA passengers, about six inches of snow has fallen in Bellingham. WTA will begin our day chained up. This means a top speed of just 25MPH.
WTA is ready to get you where you have to be, though we might be running a bit late!
NOTICE!
WTA is ending all bus service at noon today.
If you left home by bus this morning, we'll work to return you home. If you're not able to catch a bus home by noon today, please call us at 360-676-7433.
More information soon.
WWU riders...we truly have not abandoned you! We will begin running a shuttle between Bellingham Station, through main campus, down to the Rec Center and back through campus, to Bellingham Station.
Revving up for a greener ride! 🌿🚍✨ Our 2 new electric buses are getting fixed up & set to roll out this summer. With them, our electric fleet grows to 4.
Our hearts go out to those affected by the structure fire at Hohl's Feed and Seed this morning. Please be aware our bus stop on Magnolia and Garden is closed this morning as we respect detours in place from the Bellingham Fire Department.
Please join us in celebrating our 2022 Employee of the Year - Keith! 🏆
Keith has been serving the community for over 30 years with WTA as a Transit Operator, Substitute Dispatcher, and Substitute Expediter.
We are so lucky to have Keith on board!
It's true! We're working on an app that will provide real-time bus arrival information, right to your mobile device. Our hope is to introduce it to riders this spring. We are EXCITED! Thanks for asking!
Good Morning WTA riders, our third snowy day in a row, conditions remain difficult. WTA is running all routes except for the 65. Our bus are running with tire chains which require a 25mph top speed. We will be late and we will be safe. Dress warm and thanks for your patience!
Here's another thing that's hard for us to do: reduce service. Starting Monday, we'll be running Saturday schedules Monday through Friday. And Sunday schedules on Saturdays and Sundays. Essential trips only. Questions? (360) 676-7433.
Stay Home. Stay Safe. Please don't take the bus except to get food, get medicine, see the doctor, care for someone, or get to your essential job. If you must ride, wear a mask. Stay at least 6 feet from other riders & our drivers. It's YOUR help we need, to keep everyone safe.
We would like to congratulate and celebrate Kathi on her retirement after 31.5 years of driving with WTA! Kathi has been a crucial part of our team and always brings her A-game (and a smile) to everything she does. We will miss her!
We are still...
-Disinfecting high-touch surfaces nightly
-Fare free. Enter & exit by rear door unless ramp is needed
-Limiting buses to 12 people
-Adding extra buses on busy routes
-Asking riders to wear a mask
Ride the bus for essential trips only, until further notice.
Thanks to Lummi Nation for taking care of Rt 50! Due to their good work we are able to get through on most of the route. A bit too deep and icy at MacKenzie and Lummi View. We turned around at the gas station/market this time.
Ridership is now down by 85%. We're still transporting people needing groceries, medicine and medical care. We also carry workers who ensure that groceries, medicine and medical care remain available to all of us. Keep them & our drivers safe by riding for essential trips only.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! To the volunteers of the Whatcom County Community Face Mask Team, and for the generous contributions of
@BrioLaundry
, and
@ragfinery
. We're not only grateful for the masks, but for your hand-crafted show of support!
A view of King Street Station this morning for our first trip to restart train service to Vancouver BC and to all stations north of Seattle. It's been way too long. We've missed you! <3
Our superstar driver Johnathan Taylor finished 2nd place at the Washington State Roadeo in the Body on Chassis division! Johnathan navigated the course quickly and efficiently and we are so proud! 🤠

WTA recently changed the name of its Route 50, from Route 50 Gooseberry Point to Route 50 Lummi Nation. Members of the Lummi Indian Business Council and WTA Board Members commemorated the change on June 13, 2023.
We're still transporting people who need groceries, prescriptions and medical care, as well as those traveling to essential jobs. Help them--as well our drivers performing an essential service--by riding for essential trips only, wearing a mask, and keeping 6 ft from others.
Please join us in congratulating Patty (left) on 20 years of safe driving with WTA! We are so lucky to have Patty behind the wheel!
Passenger compliment: "Driver Patty was exceptional yesterday, very good with people on board and excellent driving through heavy traffic!!"
Hi
@BhamHerald
thanks for helping us spread the word and for all your hard work during this pandemic. Just curious why you chose this photo? Any way to update with a picture of a bus? Thanks!
Good morning. Buses are chained and most on regular routing. Exceptions are Rt 1, staying on the Boulevard in both directions, not traveling on South Hill. Rt 512 is staying on Lake Whatcom Blvd both directions, no Lake Louise Rd. Stay warm, stay safe, and stay home if you can.
Challenging conditions, including some of our buses getting stuck. Thanks for your patience as we try to get everyone where they're going. Safety is number one. We're taking it slow.
Free Fare Days start next Thursday! Other than Route 80X to Mt. Vernon, on which regular fares apply, all rides are free from August 11-20, on all buses, paratransit minibuses, and the Lynden Hop.
Each Friday, WTA picks up two minibuses full of food from the Food Bank. Then we deliver them to families all over Whatcom County. Thanks for the coordination,
@WUEmergencyMgmt
! We're all in this together!
Unfortunately, we need to reduce service, starting on Monday. Here's how it will work: Saturday schedules on Monday through Friday. Sunday schedules on Saturdays and Sundays. Essential trips only. Until further notice. Please call if you have questions. (360) 676-7433.
Wow, Bellingham! We have so much snow. We are in operation today but expect delays. Updates on routes will be posted here on our feed. We will let you know if routes have snow detours in effect. Be safe and enjoy.
Our Part:
-Fare free
-Disinfecting high-touch surfaces nightly
-Reduced service
-Limit 12 riders max
-Adding buses when needed
Your Part:
-On and off at rear doors unless ramp is needed
-Don't ride if sick
-Wear mask on bus and all WTA property. Cover your nose and mouth
Our success is primarily due to our employees. Route Maintenance who are out plowing bus routes, Fleet Techs who keep the buses in great shape, the Operators, Dispatchers, and CSRs. The buses, manual chains, and automatic chains are standard equipment. WTA employees ROCK!
@ridewta
Good (super-early!) morning, and thank you for the reply, that’s really impressive actually! Those buses must be p hardcore. Is there any publicly avail info on how they handle it so well? Under the hood specs, what snow tires or chains they’ve got? Stuff’s cool, I’m curious! 😯
Now that the Center for Disease Control is recommending masks in public spaces, please wear one when you ride the bus. Even with a mask, keep at least 6 feet from others, and ride for essential trips only. Stay home. Stay safe.
Congrats to Transit Operator, Johnathan, who took 2nd Place at the Washington State "Roadeo" on Sunday!
Johnathan will be the first WTA Driver in history to compete at nationals, in Louisville, KY next May.
Thank you to the women & men of
@ridewta
,
@MyCommTrans
& transit authorities throughout Northwest Washington who are working hard to keep public transportation on schedule & commuters safe in the snow!
Now celebrating Transit Employee Appreciation Day!
We're so thankful for the compassion, professionalism, and safety-first mindset of everyone on our team. Go Team!

1 of 2.
Public transportation is an essential service. Though ridership is down significantly, we're still carrying people who need the bus to reach essential jobs, groceries, pharmacies, and medical appointments.
If you're looking for a ride that's faster than the Millennium Falcon and more reliable than R2-D2, hop on board with us! 🚌💨
And remember: when you ride with the WTA, the Force is always with you.
