Recently Physics students observed the sun at midday using our solar telescope and had a great view of sunspot region 3663. This image was taken by Yuri Savchuk who explained, “the sunspot cluster shows how active our sun is at the moment at the maximum in its magnetic cycle”.

Jack Carey, Emily Bunney, Greg Cook and Vas Mentzou all got a certificate of participation. It is a challenge aimed at Year 2 students so all the Year 1s who took part have done particularly impressively. Well done all!

They also achieved 2 silver awards (Ben Stewart in Year 2 and Year 1 student Molly Joyce). 5 bronze awards were awarded to Year 2 students Dougal Innes and James Bird, and Shrishant Reddy, Chloe Fry and Lilly Niblett from Year 1).

This week, we awarded the Huish participants their well earned certificates. Our amazing students achieved 2 gold awards (Year 2 students Alex Bulloso and Matt Lewis-Baker) – only 8% of candidates reached this level of achievement so this shows the high calibre of our students.

Back at the end of January, A Level Chemistry students sat the RSC Chemistry Olympiad. This is a brutal 2 hour exam full of challenging Chemistry problems that goes well beyond the scope of the A Level.

There will also be a photobooth, DJ, donut van and an ice-cream van on hand at the event! . Thank you to EVO Academy, Kennedys and the Moore Scarrott Group for sponsoring CareerFest. We appreciate you supporting what will be an invaluable event for Huish students.

On Friday 28th June Huish will be hosting CareerFest, a festival themed careers day for our Year 1 students. The event will consist of:.- A fair with over 60 exhibiting employers and Universities.- Industry workshops and activities.- Inspirational talks from guest speakers.

They also carried out tests on each other including bone-conducted hearing, ultrasound, ECGs and peak flow monitoring. The group thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained more insight into career options available to them.

Health & Social Care students were treated to a visit from Medical Mavericks to give a hands-on session with medical equipment. Students were able to try lots of simulated medical activities including suturing, keyhole surgery and venepuncture.

A Level Physics students took a trip to the largest construction project in Europe at @hinkleypointc. While the reactors have not been built yet, students saw models as well having a site tour. Some students might be employed there during it’s projected 60-year operating life!

A Level Geologists have kicked the Biologists out of the lab for more fun and frolics, this time to explore metamorphic aureole simulation experiments. Some students took it upon themselves to oversee the Health & Safety, and took it VERY seriously!.
