Lena M in Year 7 has been selected to play for Somerset football’s U14 team, as their number one goalkeeper. She is also on the England talent pathway and is definitely one to watch for the future.

Owen G was selected to represent Somerset schools at the English school track and field championships. He took part in the 1500m steeple chase. It was a tough race on one of the hottest days of the year, but he acquitted himself brilliantly and finished 11th.

Trips update. All safely back from Normandy. Paris group due back in ten minutes.

Paris trip update. They have now left Fleet Services. Allowing for a driver swap on the way, ETA is 1.30am at the earliest and more likely 1.45-2am. We will update you when they are around an hour away.

The Normandy trip has now docked at Portsmouth and is disembarking/setting off around now. Their ETA at school is around 1am. The Paris trip has arrived at Fleet Services on the M3 for a 45 minute break and then will be carrying on.

Well done to Renée VN, who came second in the Hannah Francis One Day Event at Southfield House at the weekend, competing in the 70cm class on her horse Brambles. This means Renée has qualified for a place at the championships later in the year.

On their Normandy trip, Year 7 has been visiting the Peace Museum, the Mémorial de Caen, to learn more about World War II.

Amazing news from the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Elite World Championships, where Meadow T in Year 10 has been fighting really well. She has won bronze, losing out to the eventual gold medal winner. A great experience for her.

The Year 8 residential trip to Porthpean Outdoor Adventure in Cornwall got off to a great start. Students have already been climbing and caving and enjoyed a lovely breakfast.

Update from the Year 7 French trip: they arrived safely in Normandy last night. Today's excursions started at the local market. Students practised their linguistic skills, talking to stall holders and making purchases using their euros.

Congratulations to 7M, the 2025 MFL Spelling Bee champions and winners of the Golden Bee Trophy. All Year 7 tutor groups were represented, in a well contested competition of questions in four languages.

The National Youth Orchestra is delivering a workshop on Thursday 10th July at Ilfracombe Academy. It is being arranged by Devon Music Hub, however it’s now being offered to pupils from Somerset.
