Platinum is very rare.
Platinum is much rarer than Gold (180 tons mined annually). Historically it has been dearer than Gold. It is only mined in South Africa and Russia. It has been in deficit for the last 3 years, and is projected to be in deficit going forward. It is now trading in backwardation
