Medical harm from excess scanning is on a par with the harm from excess alcohol consumption or excess weight. Every time you have a normal CT scan we have harmed you. https://t.co/i8BcLwDcYU

Excellent 🧵 on liquidity stresses, short and long term rates, QE.
1/13 🧵on the stresses in the funding markets, why they are happening, and what it means. Be sure to see the last two posts (12 and 13). Funding rates are rising relative to the Federal Reserve's administered rates (bottom panel arrow). This signals stress in funding markets.

⚠️ Multi-country outbreak of mpox 1b. @WHO upgrades risk of MPOX 1b to moderate for men who have sex with men. This situation report was precipitated by the multi-country community spread of the more deadly clade 1b.

⚠️The SOFR-IORB is at a record high spread of +37bps. When the FED cut the FFR October 29, IORB dropped to 3.9%, yet SOFR hardly moved (4.31% to 4.27%). Spreads are usually negative, except at month ends (now). If the spread doesn’t moderate soon that will herald urgent Repo

Trialing GLP1’s in LongCovid is long overdue. Excellent that Tirzepatide trial is finally recruiting. Many more anti-inflammatory trials need doing. I postulated this 18 months back.👇👇 https://t.co/a53jVGvF8C

Statin therapy is associated with a higher incidence of new onset Diabetes. There are alternatives. ✴️2024 @TheLancet meta-analysis of 23 statin trials (154,664 participants), confirming a dose-dependent 10-39% increased risk of new-onset diabetes. ✴️Bempedoic acid is a statin

⚠️FED monetary policy irrelevant, only MONEY PRINTING counts. QE/YCC/Repo operations by Dec 1. -SOFR-OIS spread remains wide. -Long bond rates are up (didn’t the FED just cut rates??) -QT ends Dec 1. -For the FED to have any control over short term or long term rates, they will

⚠️Fed cuts by 25 and ends QT Dec 1. 2 BIG problems: 1. The long end called BS on the cut and spiked 25bps. 2. SOFR spiked to 4.31 going into the cut. QE/YCC will start in December as long bonds sells off and SOFR spikes. Called this: 👇👇 https://t.co/5brXEN33kC
BREAKING: The Fed cut rates another 25 bps, moving down to a new range of 3.75-4.00%. They also announced an end to QT in December which was expected. The bond market is pricing in another rate cut on December 10 which would bring the Fed Funds Rate down to 3.50-3.75%.

When I first started in ICU in South Africa Arterial lines were a luxury. The main problem was that it made nursing and monitoring the patients harder because phlebotomists needed constant calling for bloods, and ABG’s couldn’t be done by many ICU nurses.
When I first started in medicine idea of not using arterial line in ICU patient was seen as crazy I remember asking why we couldn't just use cuff for a few hours on particularly busy 30 hour call shift Now we know that cuff BP would've been fine because of an amazing & bold RCT

Bottom line: For 55-69, screening saves ~1 life per 456 screened (now proven at 23 yrs). There remains NO evidence for screening PSA’s in those younger than 50 and older than 75.

The RBA is expected not to cut interest rates with rising unemployment (4.5%) and sticky inflation (3%+). Jerome Powell just took the opposite approach and cut 25bps with very similar data. Stagflation is a bugger for central bank rates policy. Cutting into inflation to save the
