Public service remains a noble calling—but we could make it better.
Thank you
@marylandmatters
for allowing me to share some thoughts as my time in Annapolis comes to an end.
It was a joy to serve. Thank you.
ALERT🚨: We have received several calls regarding questions about disinfectant use and
#COVID19
.
This is a reminder that under no circumstances should any disinfectant product be administered into the body through injection, ingestion or any other route.
June 2021 data:
--100% of COVID-19 deaths in Maryland occurred in people who were unvaccinated
--95% of new COVID-19 cases in Maryland occurred in people who were unvaccinated.
--93% of new COVID-19 hospitalizations in Maryland occurred in people who were unvaccinated.
1. UNDER ARMOUR. Good to begin the day with some good news:
To support the University of Maryland Medical System’s (UMMS) 28,000 health care providers and staff, Under Armour has begun to manufacture and assemble face masks, face shields and specially equipped fanny packs.
After weeks of diplomatic discussions and procurement efforts, the State of Maryland has acquired *500,000* COVID-19 tests from LabGenomics in South Korea.
Governor Hogan and First Lady Yumi Hogan will make the formal announcement at 2 pm today here in Annapolis.
Captain Moises A. Narvas, 34, from Germantown, MD, was killed in Iraq on March 8. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, and three boys.

This isn't just GOOD news, it's NEWS, period: The first three of our
#COVID19
patients in Maryland have been cleared.
A reminder that the vast majority of people will recover from this infection, with proper care and protocols.

Her last words—in one of the last calls to go out—were, ‘I love you guys.'

One of today’s announcements is personal for me. My wife, Kirsten, is a doctor at Takoma Park’s Adventist Hospital, which as the governor said, is becoming a field hospital site. Not sure yet exactly what this means for her or for us, but as they say, we’re all in this together.
8) JUN. 2 PRIMARY: Gov. Hogan is ratifying the State Board of Elections’ plan for VOTE BY MAIL. Board’s plan requires some polling places available for voters unable to vote by mail or with special needs. HOWEVER, he urges those who can vote by mail to cast their ballot by mail.
1. Over the last hour, Governor Hogan has spoken to Leader Hoyer and congressional leaders inside the Capitol.
In between those calls, he gave the order for State Police Superintendent Jerry Jones to mobilize 200 troopers to support MDP and USCP.
Today, for the first time since March 28, the State of Maryland is reporting *zero* new COVID deaths.
Still a long way to go, but this is a day we have very much been hoping for.
After two Speakers and countless speech preps, my days in the Capitol are at an end. This is all I ever wanted, to do this work. I had the best time, with the best people. It really is a joy to serve.
We are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the below individual in reference to an assault that took place this morning on the Capital Creacent trail. Please contact Det. Lopez at 301-929-2774 with any information. Pease reference case number 20001297.
Maryland is the first state in the nation to have a senior call check program, a free, daily service to to check in on someone 65 and older.

It has come to our attention that media and TV crews have attempted to access the site of the Carroll County nursing home outbreak. This is both not safe AND not smart. It makes it harder for staff and health officials to provide care and conduct their investigation.
I’m used to my wife having to leave suddenly to get to the hospital. This morning, it was for a happy reason:
To get vaccinated against COVID-19.
So proud of Kirsten, after all she’s seen and been through this year for her patients, and for our family.

I have extended the emergency order prohibiting utility providers from shutting off or charging late fees for residential services, including electricity, water, phone, and internet, through September 1.
Read the order:
TOMORROW, 11am:
@GovLarryHogan
will hold a press conference to announce additional actions to slow the spread of
#COVID
ー19. Watch the livestream on our Twitter, FB, and YouTube.
WIRELESS ALERT. In the next couple of hours, Marylanders will receive an alert on their phones regarding Governor Hogan's stay-at-home order. It is the first time we are using this system in the Hogan administration.
NEWS: MASSIE confirms he will request formal roll call vote on coronavirus package, meaning leaders will need at least a quorum of lawmakers on the floor to pass it
What is a COVID-19 vaccine “breakthrough” case? It’s when a vaccinated person gets infected with the coronavirus. Health experts say such cases appear rare.
This chart shows you the trends for COVID hospital admissions in Maryland for each age group over the last four weeks.
The largest decline—53%—is in the 65+ category.
I recently took quite a tumble on the temporary ramp at the State House's side entrance. The DGS folks kindly added some slip-resistant coating for geezers like me.
The comms team (very unofficially) rededicated the ramp in my honor at a (very brief) ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Here in sleepy Annapolis, the Maryland Capitol Police have no reports of non-permitted rallies and have received no indications of any upcoming rallies.
Wow.. Dr. Andy Harris (R-Md.) at this appropriations hearing right now.
"We're safer from death if we're not born.. The bottom line is that there's some element of risk."
2) The State of Maryland has uncovered a massive criminal enterprise involving over 47,500 fraudulent claims and totaling over $501 million. Exposing this scheme and notifying fed authorities shed light on related fraudulent criminal activity in other states.
STATEMENT from
@GovLarryHogan
&
@NYGovCuomo
:
"Congress must appropriate an additional $500 billion specifically for all states and territories to meet the states’ budgetary shortfalls that have resulted from this unprecedented public health crisis."
Biden thanked governors, including Maryland’s Republican Gov. Larry Hogan, for encouraging vaccinations and praised businesses taking steps to mandate vaccines.
Congratulations to President-elect Biden. Everyone should want our president to succeed because we need our country to succeed. We have great challenges ahead of us as a country. Now more than ever, we need to come together as Americans.
Congrats to
@CAgovernor
@GavinNewsom
and the entire team in CA -- and to
@GovLarryHogan
and the MD team.
Today -- the last day in May -- California and Maryland became the 11th and 12th states to top 70% of adults with at least one COVID shot!
Well, we sent out a statewide text message yesterday encouraging people to go to to find a provider. Through that portal, you have a choice of pharmacies, hospitals and health systems, or your local health department,
Does anyone have any idea where 65-year-olds and older can get vaccinated against Covid in Maryland? They opened the category today and told people NOTHING about where to go. None of this would be happening if Larry Hogan were governor.
Announcement by
@GovLarryHogan
:
Maryland has experienced its first
#COVID19
outbreak. It is at a long-term care facility in Carroll County where there are a total of *66* positive cases, with 11 currently hospitalized.
The American people—not the politicians—elect the president. The scheme by members of Congress to reject the certification of the presidential election makes a mockery of our system and who we are as Americans.

TESTING. For some time now, we've been asked about the possibility of states banding together to expand
#COVID19
testing.
Today, SIX STATES (MD, LA, MA, MI, OH, VA) are signing on to the first interstate testing compact testing of its kind.
Recall that on March 15, MD Gov. Hogan, DC Mayor Bowser, and VA Governor Northam specifically asked for a federal testing site in the region. Here’s the letter:
