Zach Lowe was in Las Vegas for summer league and attended board of governors press conference and spoke with NBA owners. He said the Pels are the only team he heard relocation threat about.

The counter is I assume nearly every NBA franchise has turned down a ten figure offer in the last 5 years. I am in no way saying the Pelicans are for sale. But I am saying until we actually see the official plans to meaningfully address arena renovations, it’s something.

It’s July 25th, 2025 and we have zero updates on Smoothie King Center renovations. Pels/Saints ownership and the LSED (state agency in charge of arena/superdome etc) were publicly fighting over just $11 million in Superdome renovations last year. Pels lease expires in 2029.

New Orleans Pelicans forward Herb Jones has agreed to a three-year, $68 million contract extension with the franchise, Mark Bartelstein and Kieran Piller of @PrioritySports told ESPN. Jones now has a total five years and $97M on his Pelicans deal – with player option in 2029-30.
