Back in the days of yore, voice calls were the only way to immediately reach someone. We also had these things called “answering machines” that allowed one to listen while a caller left a voice message and determine if the call was worthy of a pick-up. We called it “screening.”.
how to explain to boomers and gen xers that non-urgent voice calls are rude because they force the other person to stop everything they're doing to pay attention to you immediately, whereas a textual message allows the person to respond when they have a moment.
