It was a tough call. Was the choice, respond to “a bully” or stickhandle “an unstable and unrestricted sociopath”. Carney’s answer to the reporter took the high road.

An Ontario ad on Ronald Reagan’s support of free trade may have been an unnecessary risk. But Mark Carney’s apology to Donald Trump was an unnecessary own-goal.

As a high school teenager, I had summer jobs in the mail room at the law firm where Ken Dryden articled. Articling lawyers hardly noticed us. Not Ken Dryden. Seeing me on the subway he strode right up sat down and had a conversation. Decent human being!

Tributes are pouring in from across Canada and beyond after former Montreal Canadiens goalie Ken Dryden — a legend of Canadian hockey — died at the age of 78.

Good read. Gets you thinking. The B.C. Supreme Court’s recognition of Cowichan title is an invitation to enact transformative change https://t.co/5BQipAjqk0 via @ConversationCA

We tend to view private property as a sacrosanct, never-changing principle. But property rights are legal constructs — never absolute and always evolving.

ANALYSIS: Make the 407 free for trucks? What if we charge them to use the 401, instead | TVO Today @jm_mcgrath And, let’s reduce single occupant commuters by making car pooling too attractive to pass up, and single use too costly.

New Zealand’s road user charge follows a simple logic — those who damage roads and cause congestion should pay for it.

“The government maps showing which parts of the park are included took my breath away: it’s a lot.” The proposed plan could strip away nearly 60% of Wasaga Beach's shoreline, putting critical dune habitat and piping plover territory at risk. More here: https://t.co/wi5HQMkATd

If Doug Ford wanted to create a real legacy, he’d start an aggressive expansion of public parkland in Ontario to keep up with its massive population.

In Canada, heat produced by data centres, grocery stores, laundromats, restaurants, sewage systems and hockey arenas could be captured and turned into energy.

@ParksCanada Please rethink ALL concert events at National Historic Sites. We understand the revenue needs, but question the net benefit after wear and tear on assets, clean-up cost, impact to neighbours and uses that don’t match heritage value.

A controversial concert that was scheduled for a national historic site in Halifax has been cancelled by Parks Canada, but the singer has found a new venue in the province.

Great point in this article. I think the author of Values @CanadianPM "get's it", but deeply worry @fordnation and @ABDanielleSmith are being short-sighted. Canada’s proposed east-west energy corridors should prioritize clean energy. https://t.co/ieWUnDZrJY via @ConversationCA
theconversation.com
Creating energy corridors is in the national interest, and the Canadian government should prioritize funding clean energy supply solutions.

As importantly, sophisticated companies and developers have the capacity to build things carefully. Don't confuse cutting red tape, with cutting corners. ANALYSIS: There’s cross-party consensus that our regulatory status quo isn’t working. What will?

Mark Carney and Doug Ford both think existing red tape halts progress. No one knows how to replace it.
