To all friends of chemical bonding: there was a comment on our recent bonding analysis in phase-change chalcogenides, to which we have written a reply. All such materials have electron-rich multicenter bonds with ½ bond orders, but QTAIM (a density-chopping method) doesn't get it

The drama came to a happy ending. After a few protests, both kind and clear, a friendly typesetter (from India) came forward and made the corrections. It is worth protesting, resisting, not giving up. Never give up, never. Publishers need to realize that eProofing is a dead end.

Proofs are getting worse and worse. What the largest for-profit scientific publisher (with 8 letters) has been doing for years, another large publisher (with 5 letters) is now doing, too. The “galley proof” (with many weird errors, produced by the typesetter, not by the authors).

It is a very special pleasure to present a new perspective article published in the flagship journal of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Chemical Science, open access of course. Using only three examples focusing on molecular crystals (carbonate chemistry), we show the importance

It gave me great pleasure to write this little commentary, especially as the accompanying topical review by Hoser and Madsen is extremely well done.

Can one predict crystallographic information (crystal system, extinction group, space group) from machine learning trained against a plethora of simulated powder XRD patterns? Yes, we can! A contrastive representation learning approach significantly outperforms previous

Today I remembered a happy day in 2024 when one of my doctoral students, an exceptionally gifted theorist, was awarded his PhD. Peter's fantastic contributions helped to reveal “metavalency” (in phase-change materials) to be invalid, not a new type of bonding but known as

Hartmut Bärnighausen, one of the most important German solid-state chemists and inventor of the group-subgroup family trees, has passed away at the age of 92. He was a fine colleague, always moderate in tone, extremely precise in his arguments. Despite his very few publications,

If I remember correctly it was John Ioannidis who pointed out that the majority of the alleged findings published in medical science (e.g., immunology) cannot be reproduced.

Dubious invitations to publish in journals without any quality assurance arrive by the dozen every day, but this one is really great. The algorithm doesn't even manage to enter a name.
