Fire, represented by its avatars, coal, oil and gas, is our superpower, and we can almost be forgiven for believing that we’ve mastered it. But we glossed over a crucial detail: we aren’t the only ones being supercharged . . . https://t.co/4Wze9C1S7u

We fell in love with the power and speed that fossil fuels brought us. But the price being paid in California, and around the world, has become too high

Finally had the time to read @Tanvim's much-anticipated investigation for @typeinvestigate and @highcountrynews on the Border Patrol's rescue operations here in the Sonoran Desert. It was worth the wait. This is top-notch reporting.

Younger journalists interested in Evan's life and work should check out the @longformpodcast interview he did back in 2013 — it's fascinating

Heartbroken to hear of Evan Wright's death. A major early journalistic inspiration of mine. Though he's deservedly remembered for Generation Kill, folks sleep on How to Get Away with Murder in America — one of the wildest feats of GWOT reporting ever done

Thanks to my incredible colleagues, to anyone who’s ever shared my reporting, and most of all to everyone who’s trusted me to share their story over the years — even, and especially, when it’s been painful, dangerous, or scary. This work isn’t possible without people like you.

For now, I have a book to finish and I’m putting all my energy into that exciting new chapter of journalistic life (at some point I’ll finish revamping my website so folks can keep tabs on my work there). After that, who knows.

Personal news: after nearly 11 years, my run at The Intercept is through. Having spent more than a quarter of my life at the organization, I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t rough. Still, I feel enormously lucky to have had this opportunity.

I was writing about layoffs and then my husband @petermaass got laid off by @theintercept and then I finished writing my piece about what we can do to save the media... https://t.co/nWZg9nlNek

Alice was an absolute rock in our newsroom for nearly a decade. Incredibly versatile, experienced, always generating fresh angles. It was a privilege to work alongside her and losing her the way we did is beyond upsetting. The world needs more of what she does.
After eight years, I was laid off from @theintercept among many brilliant colleagues. I had just cut short my maternity leave to cover the war in Gaza. Journalism will break your heart but there are so many stories to tell, now more than ever. I'll keep at it, somewhere. 🖤

I've known José since his days in TI's fellowship program. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about him, both as a colleague and friend. Diligent, dogged, compassionate — he's a reporter's reporter and a hell of a good person. Editors, you'd be a fool not to hire this kid.
I was laid off from The Intercept, along with a number of my talented colleagues. I’ve written and produced some of my proudest work at The Intercept. Forever appreciative of having worked alongside such incredible colleagues and editors.

The hardest part of getting laid off has been seeing my mentors get laid off too. Rashmee was the glue that held our newsroom together. She was everywhere at once. A patient, thoughtful, kind manager. Led TI’s singular coverage of the Hindu far-right & its ties to U.S. politics

My excellent adventure at The Intercept is over, I was among those laid off. What a ride! Wrote on huckster generals & genocide denialists (hello Stan McChrystal & Peter Handke), edited Jeremy Scahill & Masha Gessen, oversaw security for reporters in warzones. Give me a shout 😀

The Intercept laid off 16 of our colleagues today. There’s not much to say. TI cut the people who keep this place running and this is a devastating blow to our newsroom
