Do I love that? Obviously not, if you have ever followed anything I have written or tweeted on the subject. But the idea—that there is a bipartisan “contain India” strategy wildly overestimates how much effort normal politicos have put into this thing.

This is very important and has come up a lot in my recent convos in India. "Where does Narendra Modi shop for his oil?" is not something most Americans think about at all . Outside of this little echo chamber of ours there is no "America hates India hates America" discourse.
Indians are overestimating the salience of US-India relations to American politics: all of this is backpage news in American papers. Most elected officials are not aware of what is happening.
