Coming home from Tullamore today, there was a 10k section of the M4 where the speed limit was 60 because the road was being resurfaced.
So I had ten minutes of cars passing me at 100. Limits are routinely ignored in Ireland, because they're only enforced on special occasions.
@ray_cun
Around some road works you may see cautionary speed limits. These are advisory but there is no legal obligation to obey them and gardaí can't prosecute for exceeding the advisory.
Might be the case in this instance.
@ray_cun
Agreed. I'm a speed limit obversing driver but sometimes feel I'm actually putting myself at more risk of being rear ended by drivers who have no intention of slowing. What is the rush?
@ray_cun
Traveled West-East on the M4 on Wednesday.
60km/h limit, perfect surface, no workers nearby, no reason for it tbh. The signs were just up early/late.
That situation just breeds disrespect to limits, and they're then ignored when absolutely necessary. Also, no enforcement.
@ray_cun
One problem is that these signs are left up for long periods when no work in taking place. I can think of one case where they remained over the Xmas hols when there were no workers for a fortnight and no need for them.
A lot here RE Irish road traffic policing this week given terrible news of many fatalities
Tonight motorists were expected to observe 60kph on M4 for 7 minutes. We travelled at 60kph. Everyone overtook us at who knows what speed
🏎️No enforcement = impunity ?
@ray_cun
Seeeeeeriously, last week I ended up speeding up to 80 again about halfway through because the thought of being rear ended with a 60km/h speed differential wasn't the most comforting.
