beginning- while sitting on the top of the bus, deepak holds phool as in a caring gesture ensuring she doesn't fall or something. towards end- deepak gives his hand to phool to help her get off the auto. she smilingly declines and gets off herself! (character developement) 6/13

a god gifted sketch artist, poonam doesn't know what she is capable of. she believes this artform is 'fizool'. maybe society has had her believe this. she could've had her exhibitions but she is a destined housewife now. she is a "laapataa lady". 5/13

Phool doesn't immediately turn into a strong independent women who don't need no man, Deepak's household doesn't have a full feminist uprising, the inspector doesn't become 100% morally righteous in the end. The story shows progress the way progress really is – subtle. Slow.

The best part about Laapataa Ladies – other than the performances, music, feel-good factor – is that it is one of the rare social message movies that shows restraint, where characters' wins are still within the realism of their lives, and that makes it that much more impactful.

For everyone going gaga over #LaapataaLadies on Netflix, I went to the theatre and watched it. I am not judging you - just being morally superior and cool
#LaapataaLadies is a delightful little film. What a lovely ensemble cast & restrained direction . It never gets preachy. And Deepu & Phool is such a sweet love story too.

Just finished watching #LaapataaLadies. A must watch satire by Kiran Rao on the Indian society, esp the rural setup and the prevalent mindset for women. A story of two newly wed brides whonget lost, but in actuality find themselves n their purpose. Great acting by each actor 👏
