It's been a tough time for #NYC aquatics. #Lifeguard shortages. Reduced public pool times/access. Closed beaches. Private pools that don't reopen. Despite all this, I'm bullish on NYC's aquatics future - as Carl Quigley and I write about in #SwimmingWorld.

There was a #mermaid sighting last week at #Bushwick High School. @Mjerle - Merle Liivand, 5-time #GuinnessWorldRecords holder and spokes person for @UN Sustainability spoke w/me about her amazing #openwater swims.

Some of you know that Inclusive Community Wellness (@icw_inc) is our nonprofit working with NYers on wellness issues. ICW has been VERY focused on swimming for #Brooklyn kids and adults—and we recently got some wonderful coverage from @NY1 .

Of course, I've got more to say about this (why not? It's an issue near / dear to my interest in getting #NYC kids to #swim safely - and play #waterpolo, too!).

I'm thinking about @NYCParks drive for lifeguards! If you've been in a cave for about, oh THREE years, you might have missed that we don't yet have enough #lifeguards to staff city pools this summer. Interested?.Check out this link:.

I've not posted in a while on Twitter—and it's NOT b/c of @elonmusk! Rather, my #waterpolo coverage has taken a back seat to other things (#swimming!). I recently wrote about #Greenwich surprising loss to New Haven & the success of @Bkwaterpolo girls squad.

Like many #waterpolo fans, I'm blindsided by the passing of Dante Dettamanti, one of the best/most colorful coaches American water polo produced. My condolences to his immediate family and the many polo athletes who saw him as far more that "Coach D.".

I don't want to be a jerk here (!) b/c I REALLY meant to send Lawrence an email thanking him for his SUPER #waterpolo recaps for @SJSUAthletics. Just really sorry about his family's / the Spartan athletic communities' loss.

I wanted to pay my respects to the family of @lawrencefansjsu and the @SJSUAthletics community. I NEVER met Lawrence BUT was touched by his work / kindness - and b/c of that I won't soon forget him:

I saw that others were posting pics of their caps; look at what @KAP7WaterPolo accidentally sent to @Bkwaterpolo (sadly, we have to send them back!). Who wouldn't want to be a Trojan (right @SCwaterpoloFans)?

Another thing that REALLY bugged me in 2021 was how @USCWaterPolo treated Marko & Stefan Vavic. Their dad Jovan is in the legal fight of his life BUT why punish his sons? If Marko is in the NCAA final against Cal, Trojans win! Is this really #FightOn?!

More thoughts; Princeton absorbed A LOT of penalties but got Harvard's Alex Tsotadze to foul out—a difference maker in the 2nd half when the Tigers outscored the Crimson 6-goals to 4. With a 5-1 NWPC record, Princeton is on top no matter WHAT @sfbk_mwp does tonight at Blodgett.

Left @HarvardH2OPolo Blodgett Pool where @Pwaterpolo overcame a 3-0 deficit to knock Crimson out of 1st in a 12-9 NWPC win. Tiger's George Caras was FANTASTIC w/4 goals. Princeton played well on defense, holding Harvard to single digits. Andrej Basica had a hat-trick for Harvard.

Where's @waterpolosprea1 with the line for the U.S. vs. Montenegro match? Can it be that TeamUSA will win a @FINA #waterpolo gold for the first time ever (Right? When has THAT happened before @GregMescall?).
