"The old man never did me justice" - S.N.Bose on Einstein. Heard this at a public colloquium by Dr.Partha Ghosh, direct student of Bose (of Bose-Einstein statistics fame etc).
Founder of Physical Research Laboratory, IIMA, Ahmedabad Textile Industry Research Association, ran family businesses including Sarabhai Chemicals was "hand-picked" by Nehru!!! The hubris of these RaoBahaduris ...
Today is the birth centenary of Vikram Sarabhai handpicked by Nehru in 1962 to launch India's space programme. Seven years later ISRO came into being. Sadly Sarabhai passed away very young in December 1971. (1/2)

One ex-colleague(Indian) once said that in the US you felt equal, in the UK you felt equal but separate. TBF, most educated Indian folks deal with top 5% of the American population - can be very distorting.

That is why in India it makes no sense to discuss in terms of gov vs private, this vs that of any kind - basically a land of third raters giving rise to a fourth rate culture. Third rate people, fourth rate culture.

There r areas of california where there r plenty of them. Funny to see their converted white sardarinis with their headgear & all that. Closest thing to a desert cult that came out of India. All sorts of puritanical notions about their faith, conspiracies against their community.

At least this is understandable. Some were questioning the choice of Mumbai-Ahmedabad as the choice of the first Bullet train route. These frogs in the well have no idea about the traffic on that route - I have traveled standing both ways.

Very obvious isnt't it? - Hindus opting for western education and careerism as life options - embeds deep linear thinking. Muslims not influenced so much by education and opting for the traditional apprentice-journeyman-master path with a very uneven journey, but is life embracing

A friend of mine once told me that communities that traditionally supplied materials to temples in Tamil nadu - some of them converted to islam & continued with the same trade. He had read that in some book by a Tamil author. Could also be one reason.

One thing I have never understood is how the US went from not allowing minorities to vote till the mid 60s to Obama in 2008. One possible conclusion is America was never as bad as it is made out to be. Because it impossible to socially evolve in a matter of decades on such issues

During DeMo, was waiting for a long time in a queue at a bank along with a person who has worked all his life at a foundry. He said that it is very difficult to cross 15k p.m. in his line of work. Actual foundry worker/technician.
Starting salary for a Mechanical Engineer graduate trainee at a heavy engineering behemoth in Mumbai is 3.7 LPA. At an automotive OEM in Chennai it is 3.5 LPA. They all take 6-7 yrs to cross 10 LPA. THIS is the middle class.
Friend's father was a scientist at EnPeeEl Delhi during the good old license raj days. Heard this from him - They would import very expensive equipment, prematurely get it certified as irreparable, sell it for spare parts
Was talking to a Scientist in a Central govt research institute, was saying how they used to import equipment from abroad at X Rs, now there is a rule to source locally from MSME, so people with MSME certificates are importing and selling to them at 3X. 🤣

Wow,never thought some journalist covering the tech beat in India would point this out. Post 2008 dip, big desi IT cos have indulged in all kinds of compensation related atrocities. A deep dive would prove that current hype about rising wages is just drivel. Congrats
