Definitely comp good books. No one thinks you're cocky. Comps prove your book is saleable.
@REstepLit Other comp advice I see a lot is don't comp to anything good that a lot of people have read because that implies you think your book is good and a lot of people should read it and that's cocky which is bad. So if agents are looking for comps, and they can't be classics or books.

one of the reasons agents write fast (seemingly curt) responses is that in order to keep in touch with everyone we have to be fast. i woke up to 57 emails. i had cleared out my inbox by 430 yesterday. and this is on a saturday so i try to blast through a few so mondays are easier.
