Also, to be clear, I abhor violence and would never go out of my way to hurt anyone, and if/whenever possible I will absolutely find a nonviolent solution. But sometimes violence is absolutely necessary to protect innocent lives, and I will not hesitate in that situation.

My wife and I are in full agreement that we will protect our family and our home by any means necessary, full stop. If I didn't do everything I could to protect my home, my wife, my kids, then I would be a failure as a father and a husband. This isn't hard, folks.
Only in Canada are you expected to act reasonably toward an unreasonable person who broke into your home at 3am. And the police and the media are desperately trying to brush this aside. It’s not going anywhere. We won’t accept it.

If you break into my house with a weapon, your safety (and your life) are immediately forfeit. You are trespassing. You are threatening MY safety/life and my family's. If it's me/them or you, it's going to be you, the cops be damned. We need to protect victims, NOT criminals!!!.
So a wanted man, with weapon, intrudes into a house while a 44-year-old man is sleeping. The man wakes up & an altercation ensues & is now being charged with aggravated assault because he beat the intruder with a weapon. Canada is fucked. They expect you to let yourself die.
