like why would i buy myself a several thousand pound ring?? i think 2-3 months salary is far too much anyways but an engagement ring is meant to be a present. why would i pay for my present.

sorry but i have never in my life heard of a woman helping pay for her own engagement ring. i would much rather my partner just spend a couple hundred on my ring than i help pay for it.
I would say "no, they don't, modern women will help pay for it," but then you would say something is wrong with the guy if he can't pay for it himself, which leads in this circle that always come back to misogyny.

read a zamyatin short story the other night that i really loved so this is v high up on my list right now.
What a book. Zamyatin saw everything, thought everything, felt everything — he saw the modern world coming at him in the mirror, dark and indifferent. ‘Masterpiece’ doesn’t even come close: the supreme achievement of science fiction.
