Results are in and it looks like it’s gonna be a half and half video! Part for Izuku, part for Ochako and then a look at their relationship and how it impacts both of them!
This’ll be fun!
I want to talk about my favorite page in the latest chapter of MHA. I’m going to break it down bit by bit and why I think Izuku will become the number one hero and change the entire landscape of the hero society.
I don’t think he’s an “unredeemable monster” but I do think people moved on to defending him rather than holding him accountable. Yes, he was a kid, but he still knew what he was doing was wrong. He did it anyway. Yes. He did apologize. He still has to atone before moving on.
No one’s saying it’s a masterpiece. But for people that hates on it, I know I personally want to praise it. Especially since it was his last chance to be a mangas and he hit it straight out of the park! It’s popular, and has been going strong for 8 years. What’s wrong with praise

STOP FUCKING ACTING LIKE MHA WAS EVER SUPPOSED TO BE A MASTERPIECE, OR "BEST SHONEN MANGA OF ALL TIME"! IT NEVER WAS! It's was guy's last chance to achieve his dream of becoming mangaka!
@kyoruyeye
I don’t know if that’s entirely fair. A lot of men in Shoujo are well developed, but they still are plot devices or love interests. A lot of Shoujo relies on love triangles or other Shoujo tropes that qualify as wish fulfillment, just different kind of wish fulfillment lol 😅
@GinOne9
It’s probably one of my favorite redemption stories, because he really does hold so much animosity toward himself for what he did for a month and 1/2. It shows that complete abasement is no better than ignoring your crimes. The way his mom says to “live each day” makes me cheer
From the start, Ochako’s been about how to help others feel happy and have an easy time. She likes seeing others happy, be that her parents, other people, or heroes who give it their all.
She’s just a giving person.
Here it is..the backstory that made some people think Ochako's goal was all about the money,forgetting the reason why she wanted it(give her parents an easier life)and the reason she wanted to help them(she wants to make the people around her happy,but we would learn that later)
Sure! So for starters, they are designed to be foils of one another. A foil character are characters that share surface similarities but are VASTLY different in background, value and behavior. In this case, the similarities between Bakugo and Izuku is their love of All Might.
@Kaiser_MHA
True, but he saw it from Izuku’s perspective this time. And since people were shocked about Endeavors reveal of abuse, I’m guessing cameras didn’t catch what they were saying to each other. It’s kind of like watching the Super Bowl at home vs being on the field.
@JamesonMozelle1
Bakugo (at this point if the series) would blow her up and say “does it look like I need your help you extra?” Luckily he mellows out later
The second one shows how weird it would be if Ochako had Izuku’s face and yeah! Eri, Izuku and Ochako all look similar because all three are connected. It’s super sweet and cute! 🥰
Oof, bad take. There’s a difference between fun nicknames/teasing between friends and calling someone something demeaning and cruel to feel superior to them. In every interaction, Katsuki uses that name to demean Deku or insult him. He LITERALLY only calls him that out of spite.
@Raiden822
Izuku never despised the nickname Deku. Iida was more insulted than Izuku when it was mentioned. People don't usually care that much about nicknames given by your friends. 🤷
If you do, that is just a reflection of a lack of friends, not of bullying.
@Inko_Midoryia
Sorry Inko, he is an abuser. Bullying is a form of abuse. He knew what he was doing. He knew what he was doing was wrong.
Yes if Izuku had followed through with it Bakugo would’ve felt guilty and awful. And it would still be his fault because he was an abuser.
@Raiden822
It’s the passive-aggressiveness for me: the pretending like they care about Ochako just so they can downplay her importance or change Izuku’s character so it’ll fit their narrative. And they do it while being so smug and acting like they’re moral paragons too.
Ochako is just as important to Izuku as Inko, All Might and Bakugo. Bakugo is his goal as a hero, All Might is his aspiration, Ochako is his inspiration and holder if his ideals, and Inko is his rock and home. He needs them all to be a great hero. Ochako gave him his hero name.
Took a while and mine is weird, but I started shipping them after she pushed her feelings down for him. I wanted her to be able to express them openly without feeling like she’d be a burden…and that’s when the shipping started 😅
Every. Single. Time. Horikoshi takes a week off? We’re getting FIRE! Every. Single. Time. Horikoshi you’re absolutely insane. And I thank you as you are one of my FAVORITE AUTHORS and ARTISTS of ALL TIME!
@thinx55
The ONLY argument for Bakugo’s favor was that if he was never in Deku’s life, Deku may have not been as determined to be a hero. He was determined to prove everyone wrong. Including the doctors AND Bakugo and the teachers. But if you pull him out it’s just the teachers and Bakugo
I still don’t think Izuku is gonna end the series quirkless. It wouldn’t make any sense.Especially since he has yet to “make the power his own.”He’s still referring to it as a borrowed power.I think he’s gonna get it back and make it his own by ending All for One (the quirk)
@y4gisupremacy
All Might easily, but second to me would be Ochako since she was the first person who stood up for his dream, “he saved me” and the one that changed his name. Third would be Inko as she made his suit and was his anchor at home (reminded him to come back) and last would be Bakugo
@Raiden822
I don’t think that they really enjoy Izuku. Not as a character. If you can’t separate the characters from the ship, that’s a problem.
Izuku doesn’t “revolve around Katsuki.” That’s not his character. Hasn’t been his character since chapter 1. He revolves around being a hero
I do see where their relationship is weird, and the language is very messed up. But I don’t read it as incest. I read it the same way I do with Mother Gothel with Rapunzel, or Endeavor with Shoto, or Overhaul with Eri; entirely obsessed with control and possession over people.
*sigh* In all of my years of being on this platform, never would i ever think i would ever have to write this...
WHY "YOU'RE MINE" ISN'T INCENTUOUS (Thread)
#MHA407
#MHASpoilers
@MU_1_2
No, because until UA changed him Bakugo truly believed that quirks were the be all end all of being successful or a good person.
It was Izuku constantly besting him (though Bakugo was stronger) that finally taught him quirks are not the most important
@GemmellRomero
“Blackwhip is his lifeline?” They never said that. They said to stay with the kid so he can work to take on Shigaraki. Methinks they’re forcing their ship into unrelated areas, a little too much. This is Izuku’s time to shine!
@ladolcevolk
Yup.Bakugo is AFO’s villain,because AFO is the person he used to be.The arrogance,egotism,and narcissism of power equaling value.Actually it’s the same as when he brought down the kid who thought(because of his quirk)he was better than his teacher…wait…was this foreshadowing?😂
Oh boy, here we go.yes.I’m a psych. And a teacher.(Not a psychologist I’m a BHT level 2 as I finish my masters)but I digress. You brought up that I’m in violation of the code of ethics because I need to “do no harm.” That’s a pretty big claim and I’m happy to put it to the test.
Let’s face facts here: he KNOWINGLY treated Izuku cruelly. For no other reason than being quirkless. He smashed a kids dream repeatedly because HE decided Izuku couldn’t have it.He then told this same kid to kill himself when Izuku wouldn’t give up. As a teacher? That’s expulsion
It’s because of this we root for him. It’s because of this he’s the strongest hero. And it’s why we all worry for him. Because there’s no hero like Deku. The one who can do anything and saves everyone.
Nagant: former hero and current villain left the confines of her hospital room to save UA and help Izuku. She’s being asked by RockLock why she did that and she responds: “he managed to wrench open my heart.” (Title of the chapter by the by)
@SpriderRed
How does Izuku need to learn how to accept his feelings for Katsuki to humanize Tenko?😵💫
S: “my family abused me and I was abandoned by heroes!”😡
D: “Dude I know how you feel, I have a massive crush on my abuser but he’s not getting it!”😢
…Somehow, I don’t think that’ll work.
While this is true and it’s important to have friends to vent to,it’s also difficult sometimes for friends to take on someone else’s trauma. It may not be a “bother”but one persons trauma on top of their own can be very laboring. That’s why therapy IS important ALONG with friends
hot take or unpopular opinion I guess: if I can't vent to you as a friend, we cannot be friends. You don't need to be a therapist in order to hear me out. If you're bothered by my trauma, I simply want nothing to do with you. Especially when I'm actively dealing with my issues.
I think the problem lies in the two extremes. You’re either “I hate him and wish he stayed dead because he’s awful and a bully and people are too nice about him” or you’re “he’s just a kid! He reflects society! It’s societies fault! Not him!” The reality is in the middle.
By all accounts, Izuku had the origin for a villain story. He was bullied and outcasted, told his dream was stupid and he needed to “get a grip on reality.” From a psych perspective, that sets someone up for failure. Dreams are essential. They make us who we are and drive us.
She follows this by saying“he’s got a special way of doing this and there’s nothing harder for a villain to bear than that”We’ve seen this from the getgo.Deku isn’t the kind of hero that fights first and never asks questions.He really wants to know what drives them down that path
@DKGJKA
This is the case of taking everything too literal in order to verify your confirmation bias. She REFUSES to look at any evidence of Ochako’s arc (being accepting her feelings of love as a supportive hero) and instead chooses to focus on the aspect that confirms that she’s right.
@Utakime
Bakugo would be flattered if it was anyone else. It’s Izuku that pisses him off. Because “how dare Deku think he’s in my league! He think he can copy me!” 🤬🤬🤬 commence angry gremlin Pomeranian noises.
I love the contrast. there’s no longer this idea that heroes are gods who don’t struggle or have troubles. It’s real. Like Nagant says,Deku goes through all of it without pretending that he’s unaffected. that is what makes him a great hero and will lead the generation of heroes😊
OK guys, Horikoshi is setting up something super interesting here.
In a stark contrast to how the crowd was avidly cheering on All Might in Kamino, the crowd watching deku is eerily silent.
Even Denki makes a direct comparison to the current difference between Deku & All Might
@kyoruyeye
I think both Shonen and Shoujo can fall into this trap, and the only way they survive it is by making characters first with their own arcs, and character roles second.
Deku really is a hero who saves everyone. Villains included. And it’s why at the end of this. He’s going to save Shigaraki and become the number one hero! Quirk or no quirk (though I still think he’s going to end with One for All ☺️)
Up until now, there’s been a schism in society, heroes vs villains. Heroes are paradigms of good and Justice, villains are twisted and evil only out to cause Chaos.
Izuku grew up in that society but he was never in the schism. Because he was quirkless. But he WANTED to be a hero
@legitokni
Anyone who reads MHA with any real form of media literacy knows that no couple has been confirmed and therefore none are canon. But izuocha has a lot of evidence supporting it 😁
@BakuDekuLs
Would the first not be good? Like. Would it not be good for Izuku to forgive him? Maybe I’m missing something here 😅 because I think forgiveness for abuse is stronger than admitting to romantic intentions.
But we know all this. So what does that have to do with what’s happening now? Because in EVERY fight Izuku is in, he thinks about their dreams. What they want. And WHO or WHAT is stopping them. He doesn’t fight for himself. Never has. He fights for everyone else. Even a villain.
He saved Iida, even if it meant going up against the Hero Killer. Then he was saved by Stain and so he saw that villains may be different than he thought.
Each time he fights a villain he asks them how they got there. He doesn’t assume they’re evil. He hears them out.
RockLock then says that beating villains is all about making them lose the will to fight and Nagant says he’s not out to punish evil, he’s heading down a more nuanced path, a thornier path. One that will push him to his limits and run him ragged each time.
Now let’s look at other facts: he changed when Aizawa called him out on his pride. He learned he wasn’t the end all be all and began to improve. He (after 6 seasons) finally apologized to Izuku for all the treatment he did (after watching Endeavor go through atonement for abuse)
He wants to save everyone and he’s not just talking about civilians. He means everyone. He saves Ochako who was nice to him, even if that meant failing himself. Didn’t matter. Because he thought about her dream. Her life. He saved Todoroki even though that meant losing.
People don’t understand him or think he’s getting too involved,but that’s how he saves them. It’s how he saved Kota(though he really barged in on his trauma)He saved Eri (though he risked the mission) he saved Bakugo, his bully(twice) and he saved All Might by giving him purpose.
he didn’t die for Deku.He died being a true hero.He wanted to catch up to Izuku.wasn’t a self sacrificial thing.He pushed Deku out of the way of Shigaraki but that’s cause he knows they need One for All.Bakugo’s character development is centered around Izuku but it’s FOR Bakugo.
Him thanking another pro hero, calling him Sempai, and recognizing someone else’s efforts in helping rather than going “of course I defibrillated myself! I’m so awesome!” Shows me how much he has been humbled.
This is total confirmation.
Humility Arc? Complete 😌
@Yunarissss2
It does for me too but sadly, that is something that is seen. Kids who were abused will sometimes (and have a statistically higher risk) of becoming abusers themselves unless they break the cycle. Shigaraki has been hurting people for being heroes. He’s become the thing he hated.
@OzonSage
He’s literally just a spoiled brat who had everything handed to him and got upset because he couldn’t always have his way. Take away his gaslighting and his “supposed power” goes away too.
@BakuDekuLs
They treat characters as pixels when it suits their fetishes. But as a reminder they think an abusive relationship in shonen would be good LGBTQ representation. Once again, I DO NOT take morality lessons from MHA twt. Nor do I take romance lessons for them either. Too many kids😓
Same fans that say Bakugo is “fine” after apologizing to Deku because Deku “didn’t care about the bullying” and “it wasn’t that bad.” Bottom line? I don’t take morality lessons from MHA fans 😅
@EriCheri3
I don’t think he’s there alone either. Bakugou’s wording makes it sound like others are there. This is the reverse of Kacchan being captured and Deku leading the team to get him back. I hope we’ll see the others next week there too.
Izuku constantly being told no (with how stubborn he is) would have made him desperate. And would’ve lead him down a dark path had he not met All Might. But he did. And it changed everything.
@diamndfreckles
Yeah…I don’t get this. Izuku was bullied and abused. He can’t imagine a world without Katsuki because he sees the impact Katsuki has had on him, good and bad.
That’s not a declaration of romance, that’s moving past trauma. That’s an Izuku win for character development.
Bakugo L
Right? The closest thing to a mentor “pervert” character is Ms. Midnight. And that’s A. Her esthetic as a hero and she’s much different as a teacher. And B. Her only “perversion” is letting teens experience the “joy of youth”
So grateful that Hori didn't make any of Dekus mentor figures massive perverts that must have taken restraint lol
Closest I think any of them even get to being like that is this one scene with All Might attracting girls on the beach, even then he looks a bit awkward about it lol
@Raiden822
Nope!And I’ve got evidence for it!The bully in Silent Voice bullied her for a month at most and then spent the next (approximately)8 years working through his guilt and self hatred. Then when he sees her again, he works to atone and understands the hostility toward him by others.
The fact that these two continually support each other and do so much for each other is so great! She was his first friend and he was her hero that saved her! He encouraged her after her loss to Bakugo and she encouraged him to continue trying to beat Bakugo! They both are just🥹
@HelgaGrin
Deku fascinates him because he wants to “save” him, and no hero ever cared before! It’s infuriating to Shigaraki because it doesn’t fit in his preconception of heroes.
His characters are relatable and nuanced, some of the best I’ve seen. His story is fleshed out and the world feels real. His quirk system is airtight and feels a lot like Avatar in its implementation. The premise is interesting and not seen before. I will continue to praise this.
I don’t read MHA for Izuku,izuocha(though I love it),or Twitter discourse.
I read it because I truly believe it is one of the BEST stories in this generation as a story of hope,and encouragement and using your gift(NOT your ability but YOU)to help others.☺️
What’s your reason?😁
I don't read MHA for 1 specific character, shipping/fanfiction, or to be informed to partake in Twitter conversations.
I read because the world is fascinating, phenomenal artwork, the themes speak to me & I love most the characters/events.
Find your reasons. All that matters.
Disagree here. If bkdk does become canon it shows that homosexual relationships are toxic, because that’s what it would be. You can’t take 10 years of abuse then 1.5 months of decency and go “yup. Romantic.” It wouldn’t be good rep.
But if krbk is canon? Yeah, that’s good rep
@fairechako
I wouldn’t call it underdeveloped, I would call it casual crushing and not the primary focus. But that’s all the relationships in MHA. All the relationships are more focused on how they impact the individual, not their relationship. Ochako and Deku casually impact each other.
@ZaeRod6
Bakugo has more stamina than Uraraka.He can take more punishment than she can.That’s not a “weak/strong” thing. That’s a stamina/endurance thing.
Sadly,it’s biology in this case.Bakugo isn’t moving anymore and was coasting off of adrenaline for a while.Helps he fought an infant.
@BakuDekuLs
“No negative comments?” I can attest that MOST izuochas were just as upset and disgusted by that art. And commented to say as such. She hyperbolizing something serious to make her point seem more valid. And then she returns to stereotypes? Sparkles=“gay”? Are you kidding me? 😑
So I’m reading a fanfic of MHA from an amazing author, Rainglows (they also did What Blooms After the Storm), and I feel like they perfectly encompassed the complicated relationship between Izuku and Bakugo!
Me personally, I don’t care how MHA ends as long as isn’t Deku losing OFA and having to become an accountant/janitor or some shit
Y’all know how depressing of an ending it would be for Deku to just watch all his friends become heroes without him?
@RoccoDamiano6
Sonic’s ALWAYS been arrogant. He’s the arrogant golden hearted character. It’s his biggest flaw and leads to his biggest mess ups, but that’s what makes his character. He was like this in the games, shows, the comics and the movies. He would DITCH the player if they didn’t move!
@GinOne9
I’m fine with both. Normalize. Boys. Crying. In. Manga. It’s a normal part of emotional expression! And it’s important! 😁 crying is healthy, whether it’s for good reasons or not. (Though, emotional control is also important lol)
There’s a psychological term to this! It’s called “manifesting” and it’s the idea that when we believe in something so strongly, we can find the ability to accomplish something we didn’t think we could. It’s the opposite of a self fulfilling prophecy. Prophecy= - manifest= +
#MHA404
It’s described in an “anime” way but… this is actually real lmao. There’s an optimist’s school of thought about focusing on what you want to achieve, and you “manifest it” into becoming true. It’s also akin to fans urging their favorite sports team to win.
@y4gisupremacy
He’s coming to terms with chasing after that ideal is just not gonna happen. He can only continue to better himself AS himself. Chasing after someone else can drive a person insane.
So what conclusion do we lead to:Bakugo WAS a monster.A horrible person who if not for UA and Aizawa, would have become a monster the likes of Endeavor. (Bullies end up becoming domestic abusers according to statistics) but that’s not the end of the story.
@GambitXIII
I love both characters and think as a pair of heroes they are great for each other. They’re constantly trying to move past the other and that makes them both improve.But as a romantic relationship? That’s not good. 😔 you don’t want to be trying to prove yourself to your partner.
So true!!I love their romance but I LIVE for their friendship that they’ve built together!They are each others supports and stand in solidarity of each other. Both inspire the other and motivate them to move forwards both as heroes and individuals!They are an awesome partnership!
To those that want a clip, here’s one of them. (Part 1)
He’s not a shipper but he is an Ochako and Deku fan and has a solid understanding of their relationship.
So what does this mean? We don’t praise Bakugo for the bare minimum. He changed yes, but he still acted like a monster. He’s FINALLY broken his pride, humbled himself and is no longer bullying Izuku. Yay. Congratulations for being a decent human being.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I’m spending time with my family this Christmas so I won’t be on Twitter for the next few days! But thank y’all so much for making each day fun and exciting! I hope you all have a happy and fun holiday celebrating with your loved ones! 🎄☃️
@JVA_FanBoy01
The kid is a hero. That’s all he wants to be. People who write this,show how much they don’t understand the character.They like his design, so they use it for their own purpose.His character, desires, motivations, will. None of that matters.He exists only for their entertainment.
