my take is that it is objectively good that genshin bakes in 2-3 completely dead patches into their yearly cycle simply because its probably better for their working conditions to do so rather than trying to maximize every single release
something something the dragons all have an ironic relationship to the region's theme
>Dvalin had its freedom stolen
>Azhdaha broke a contract
>Apep was corrupted by forbidden knowledge
>Neuvilette was born/reincarnated as human
is this anything
“natlan is too modern” idk man I think that’s one of the few truly smart impulses they had with these designs. Think about what you’re saying when you think the nation of indigenous peoples doesn’t look “tribal” enough/looks too “advanced”….
Simulanka basically recapping everything about the creation of teyvat we’ve learned over the course of the game so far lets me know Natlan is going to be insane. What do you mean you needed to give everyone spark notes
My take on this is that its not our teyvat but an extremely similar parallel world that died out, similar to how GGZ and Hi3rd are very similar worlds. Infinite possibilities in the img tree means that there's a teyvat where everything is the same except small changes
it was the same where people were like "oh honkai is ending" and then were surprised when they announced Part 1.5 and Part 2. cmon guys Everquest got a new expansion THIS WEEK

"Ei should apologize to her people" "The traveler should apologize to scara" "Arlecchino should apologize to Furina" are all of you guys catholic whats the big idea here
@windflowerlia
Venti being a bard/zhongli being so into oral tradition and folklore has so much added heft now. It was right in front of our faces the whole time lol. Those two are really playing the long con
and yes of course there's crunch happening, its live service video game dev, but them being comfortable putting out basically nothing several times a year tells me its probably not a death march
@NyaotoKoi
I mean, I'm not even trying to "defend" them inasmuch as I think its healthier for people to realize the reason they aren't putting out huge patches every single time is because real people are making the games they play
what if the reason the archon quest for natlan has a gap in 5.2 is so we can do albedo mond interlude where durin gets revived. that plotline has too much thematic overlap with natlan (ode to resurrection, abyss, dragons) to not happen in 5.x imo
Traveler has a "???" voiceline that will unlock after finishing kinich's quest AND it recommends that you finish enkanomiya beforehand, so I suspect it will be a banger
I appreciate everyone explaining what ei meant here figuratively - I’m well aware. My point is that it might have a more literal double meaning that could be revealed in the future as a bit of cheeky foreshadowing.
A major mystery since the early days of Genshin is an item mentioned in Albedo's character stories back from 1.2 where we also got our first big chunk of Rhinedottir lore - The Heart of Naberius.
“Ok you guys gotta remember all this for the next arc and don’t think for a second you figured shit out you have no idea what you don’t know” is the feeling I’m getting
none of this shit makes any sense dawg I need them to at least hand wave it with fictionologists taking credit or something, every new storyline introduces more and more "pela is 16" moments its killing me
just realized the grand theater has the little paimon/celestia crown. doesn't that exact star w/ wings and crown shown up somewhere like a logo or something
Honestly part of the problem is the bloom in genshin is so aggressive its like having a whitewash filter built into the game. So the already very light brown skin tone being used basically gets removed once characters stand in the sun. the difference in these photos is insane
should probably have a broader conversation about how every time a genuinely complicated/contradictory character comes out it becomes discourse as if its something that needs to be "solved". please engage with adult oriented media a little bit more than never
@archa1c_l0rd
It also just funny that the central and South American inspired geography being “mesas, jungles and volcanoes” was for some reason surprising to people. What else was it gonna be lol
Has anyone else ever seen a fanbase be as insecure as honkai's? People still have a chip on their shoulder about genshin's success almost three years in, genuinely never seen anything like it.
If I ran a game studio I would also be the type of pedant that needs kaveh's national geographic drip to have internal consistency with the narrative design of teyvat, im elated there's at least one group of people on earth insane in the same way, THIS is why genshin rules
forgot to post this yesterday, but
I was running around tsurumi yesterday and looking at these murals again further cement my pet theory that the triquetra is a later adjustment to the solomon's knot as a symbol/flag/crest/etc
The unified civ seems like its based on ancient greece, which is why the parts of it we've found (enka, deshret's kingdom) have greek influence, with the era of egypt being drawn on is the Ptolemaic/Hellenistic period where it was a greek state
the two core themes in the mihoyo oeuvre
1. a belief in humanity's indominable spirit to overcome all obstacles
2. the deep sea and space are the same thing and VERY scary/fucked up
You know its actually nuts how much we've gotten in that past (roughly) year. First year-ish of genshin was nothing but table setting, but since 2.4 (jan '22) we've gotten: 1/2
The more I think about it the more i'm actually extremely excited for fontaine. napoleonic wars, the paris commune, the hundred years' war, celtic/gaelic/gaul mythology, french rev, roman colonies, avignon pope etc. so much stuff to draw on that would be extremely compelling
Phanes and shades info, harbingers reveal, gone inside irminsul, yaksha and guizhong closure, scaramouche closure, abyss order origins, met children of the seele, reintroduced the manga storyline AND hexenzirkel info. Year 1 was like "there are 7 archons lol" Wild!
If Furina has found a way to outsmart celestia and pulls it off she will be the smartest, most competent archon so far which would be an incredible punchline
I really wish there was more international communication when it comes to theories, lore, critical discussion, etc. Obviously that's a heavier fan translation lift than the fan art and memes that do crosspollinate. I bet the CN lore sickos are banging out crazy forum posts tho
@windflowerlia
They're doing stuff in honkai 6ish years in right now that's driving me insane (positive). Can't wait to see what wild stuff they have planned with genshin and star rail
realizing that wine being a big part of mond culture, aside from the realities of central europe inspo, is because fermentation is cooking /with time/.
Ok here's my guess: Childe's initial awakening of the abyssal whale thing is what caused the primordial sea's resurgence and so ultimately he is responsible (per oratrice) for the serial murders by providing the means to commit the crimes.
First half of teyvat chapter
>Childe starts a flood
>The god of the region "kills" themselves
>Reunites with their sibling
>Traveler enters an isolated country stirred up by harbingers
>Ends up fighting a man made god and reality gets "rewritten"
"Do you really think the Eternity I pursue is something that can be shaken by dango and milk?" is the best line of dialogue in genshin. Because ultimately the answer was yes lmao
@Dex1o_
Its the way people act scandalized on behalf of (for example) furina and assume that's its poor writing (i.e not considered or done intentionally) that's bugging me. Obviously people can not like paimon or find her schtick grating (even I do sometimes)
"power of the sword" I know they foreshadowed/referenced this in the narzissenkreuz wq, but what if its literally the traveler's missing gold sword being used as a catalyst. Do we have any other mention of some special fontaine sword?
love that furina's character card description is like "she has anxiety and her hobbies involve practicing smiling in a mirror and crying herself to sleep teehee pero~"
Its a shame people kinda write off the hangouts because they've gotten really good since the 3rd batch (yun jin, ning, beidou). I think ninguang and Heizou's in particular are really fantastic. Heizou's is like a 2.x epilogue there's a ton of cool stuff in there
I am starting to see a little bit of rapid congealing around "formosa being the issue" here rather than hoyo - let's be /very/ clear. Even if these specific issues are solely being caused by Formosa this does not entirely mean mihoyo is unaware.
seeing the drama re: that neuvilette/wrio zine from the sidelines is totally insane to me. Shipping culture is wild man, why are you threatening someone with your full chest over different headcanon. go take a walk get some fresh air
@jadechambir
"Archons as colonial governors" has been a thing for a long time at this point and fontaine even ends with the highest expression of justice being what amounts to landback for the vishaps, for all the problems with colorism/representation, I think the politics are pretty clear...
since they're forging traveler an ancient name you just know they're gonna die in act 5 and everyone in natlan is gonna sing the ode to resurrection to bring them back during the boss fight and its gonna go absolutely nutty
@kreideblum
@windflowerlia
There was a recent line in the newest honkai chapter that made me think of the traveler being referred to as a "witness" by both zhongli and xiao
they injected me with mental illness when i was a baby because they didn't like that i radiated moonlight and had stars inside my eyes . they were jealous of me
@nightshadow1236
@Ayoub_Kaslana
And in fontaine there's been quite a lot of moments of her catching herself being a dipshit, biting her tongue etc. iirc it happened 2 or 3 times in the archon quest. She's growing! Yes, the slow pace of her arc is unfortunately set by the 7 year game plan for the teyvat chapter
@NyaotoKoi
On that note though, it does seem like they tend to put big story stuff in the dry patches (2.5, 3.5) but this one didn't even have that other than perinheri. But next patch is probably gonna be insane because of arle so w/e
Sometimes I feel like I'm fooling myself into seeing connections that aren't there, but sometimes in the newest honkai story chapter someone will put on a bluetooth headset that beams dreams into their head and I feel like the writers are gaslighting me for an unknown purpose.
the thing about "is teyvat all just a dream world" thing re: the current event is that technically speaking everything in the honkaiverse is a "dream" in the sense that the "real" is a product of "imagination", but it doesn't make it less Real, regardless.
a lot of people are saying skirk looks more in line with HI3rd character design style and I agree, but I think the fact the boss arena and everything about the boss screams Elysia/HoH:E is even crazier. that's the domain of origin man.
Kokomi was a perfect counterpoint to Ei as a model of leadership because they are both really good at exactly one thing and otherwise thrust into roles they aren’t really equipped to handle, both retreat into personal solitude, are figures of religious importance, etc
thinking about the line in nzk quest where they talk about the role of a "holy sword" in a story as interchangeable with a key, or other macguffin and that it could even be a person - in light of simulanka. Traveler isn't the hero of the story - they're the sword.
