"Reward: Lots and lots of croissants and pies (I am a baker) - Clemence". Nothing like a little incentive to get the entire community engaged in finding your stolen bike. BTW, Clemence recovered her stolen bike. Registration works!

Always a good idea to check before buying a used bike. "We found it on OfferUp, the preferred platform of bike thieves. Showed the seller the stolen listing link from Project529 & they were gracious enough to return it - they weren't aware it was stolen."

"My bike was found by a good Samaritan. It was stashed behind her apartment and she noticed my registration sticker. She was able to look it up, see my missing report, get my contact info, and I picked it up the same day! - Stephie N." Registration works!

Special thanks to the Guelph Police who went the extra mile to ensure Khal got his bike back. "They recognized the person in CCTV footage from my workplace security. Found the person and arrested her (I hope her life gets better) and I got my bike back.

When you register your bike in the 529 Garage, the community becomes your stolen bike search party. "My bike was found by a BC Ambulance Service Station. The staff looked up the Project 529 sticker and contacted me to return my bike!" - Marita R

Why should you register your bike? Simply because less than 2% of recovered bikes make it back to their owners if they're not registered. "The Police Contacted 529 Garage who gave my contact info to Police, and the Portland Police contacted me - Chris S."

Brit got her bike back! .Registering your serial # not only helps prove ownership, but is critical to reconnecting you with your bike. "It was discovered and someone entered the serial number and my 529 post came up, and they handed it in to police for me to pick up - Katrine"

Why don't all online marketplaces do this? Certainly would cut off many channels for trafficking stolen bikes, and provide potential buyers reassurance that they aren't purchasing stolen goods .

Without registration, less than 2% of bikes recovered by police make it back to the original owner. Fortunately, Leon registered his bike on and when the police found it in a homeless shelter, they were able to reach out to him through the 529 Garage.
