A less-seen side of the Philippines: the highlands of Luzon. I'm on a misty cold Asian mountain at about 7400 feet. Great cell reception.

Alas! If only Bonaparte had gone to the bayou. It might make that traditional American song "Bonaparte's Retreat" a little more logical for the country.

@aroberts_andrew There was a fanciful scheme to rescue Napoleon and take him to New Orleans:."Three days before a ship manned by Louisiana pirates and waiting off the coast of St. Helena could sail, Napoleon died. The ship was to carry Napoleon to New Orleans".

There was a time when most of the huge rivers in North America were filled with dead trees like these. You did *not* want to hit them; even one could sink you, and then you'd be stranded. On the bright side, it was probably usually possible to build a raft and float to safety.

This bread is 126 years old. It's so shiny that it makes me think they've applied a preserving varnish to it, which is probably the case; but if not, it's interesting to consider that this bread likely still has caloric value, and might not make you sick if you boiled it.

In the Wagner house in Tribschen, Lucerne one of the fascinating exhibits is the original communion bread from an 1899 Parsifal performance on this very day (!) at the Festspielhaus in Bayreuth . Bread that is a mere 126 years old!
