One thing I think a lot about is epistemic humility - being more interested in truth than "winning", ego be damned. I keep thinking "If you're wrong, would you want to know?", both towards others and myself. Ignoring better arguments is a sign of cowardice, not righteousness 🧭.

Insistence that "words are violence", using the "n-word" instead of "nigger" regardless of context, makes us weaker as a society. Similar to coercing others not to "misgender", it makes honest engagement conditional and robs us of the candor necessary to deal w/difficult issues.

I have many objections to this administration - the instinct to silence or detain both legal visitors and citizens alike for the crime of offense is truly frightening and abhorrent. I'm generally reluctant to use terms like facism, but this style of action certainly tests that.
Finally, justice. The only acceptable outcome. We cannot allow the government to treat anyone else like it treated Rumeysa Ozturk — ever.

This is one of those arguments that strikes me as so absurd and/or disingenuous it strains my ability to perceive someone as acting in good faith when they state it.
The analogy to step-parents is correct. If trans women aren't women, step parents and adopted parents aren't parents. This explains how those who insist on a biological definition of "woman" don't apply their principles consistently.

@iamjohnoliver I don't agree with most of his views on trans issues nor the way he goes about arguing them, but I've made the mistake of labeling misguided people in the past as *phobes that in hindsight was me conflating "bad" args w/being a "bad" person. A mistake I do not wish to repeat.

. @iamjohnoliver is not a misogynist for his trans views. Many of my female friends&fam who deeply care about womens issues share his views. I disagree w/their premise, but if you grant that *they* believe it, you can see how they arrive there. Good people can hold bad positions.

Listened to @LastWeekTonight 's Trans Atheletes ep, which IMO just reinforced priors. Ignored the most salient point (What *sex* are they?) and argued as if they ~were opposite sex, then cherry/nitpicked, and disingenuously framed most of the rest. Didn't add anything of value 👎.

Or stated differently, the extent that non-MAGA Trump voters sentiment changes will be due to right/wrong track of the Trump, not in being convinced by opposition politics. Mistaking one for the other can lead you to learning the wrong lessons and failing to update your priors.
