Recently hit 10K followers! Grateful for the connection & support over the years. But can’t ignore how Indian #AcademicTwitter is slowly fading - fewer people, less engagement, more silence. Where are the vibrant discussions, the dissent, camaraderies? Let’s revive it 🙏.

Time for our next set of students to fly from the nest. We tried to do new things with computational biology, data sciences and ML, faced some setbacks but also grew & learnt together. Best wishes to all of them for a bright future. Onwards & upwards 🙌

Our data show that glycated α-Synuclein may be a causal link, not just a correlation. A strong case for studying metabolic risk factors in neurodegenerative diseases.

However, glycated α-Syn induced more intense neuroinflammation and earlier behavioural deficits. Thus, glycation changes how α-synuclein drives disease, making symptoms appear earlier. This could explain why people with diabetes are at increased risk of developing Parkinson's.

Using several biophysical techniques, we demonstrate that glycation prevents α-synuclein from forming a cross-β-sheet structure; however, glycated assemblies still cause neurodegeneration in the mouse brain to the same extent as the beta-sheet-rich α-synuclein fibrils.

Excited to share our new preprint! α-Synuclein misfolding is a key event in #Parkinson disease. But what happens when it gets glycated—a non-enzymatic change promoted by high sugar levels in #diabetes or hyperglycemia? .

It is crucial to understand the raw data and present it in a way that accurately reflects its nuances. Some cool stuff in this paper to take it to the next level.

Today, I complete 15 years as a faculty member at #IISERPune. I have attempted to put together a list (based on my blogs) of some lessons that I have learnt so far. A disclaimer to note is that this list is by no means a comprehensive one, but a text of self-reflection from my.

n/n- Lastly, there is no one formula to succeed in the interviews. Different committees and institutes are looking for different skills. A rejection doesn’t mean you are a bad candidate. It may simply mean you may be a better fit elsewhere. Best wishes to all of you.

9/n- Afterwards—After the interview, note down the key learning points. Even if one interview didn’t go great, don’t beat yourself up over that. Take some time and focus on the next interview.

8/n- Language- Most interviews are conducted in English. However, if you are more comfortable in another language, you may request the committee. If the committee has any member who speaks that language, there is a good chance they will help you out.
