I need everyone who is happy to ignore risks around covid to recognise that your friends/family/loved ones who can't ignore the risks are probably at the lowest low they've been emotionally in this whole never-ending pandemic. You can help too! Just show a little solidarity.

I am so so grateful for those friends & colleagues who do wear a mask and ask about protections - for themselves & for others - in public, at events, in shops - showing it's possible for others. But it makes me really sad to think how different it could be if more people did.

@pollyrowena exactly what I was thinking and feeling yesterday (when nobody in the hospital was wearing a mask) I was there for an MRI… suddenly saw it as risk… which it shouldn’t have been

@BoMandeville I'm glad no one checks my blood pressure when I go for my regular bloods now because the day hospital is pretty much the least safe enclosed space I have to enter regularly - jam packed with 'vulnerable' patients unmasked, coughing, and staff, all but 1 unmasked, coughing.

@pollyrowena It’s incredibly frustrating, I empathise, having an immunocompromised loved one all through the pandemic. We are doing everything we can to keep them safe (and to protect ourselves too). If only the ‘hand washing’ idea hadn’t been pushed by the govt over the ‘airborne’ reality.

@annavshelton Yes, quite - I've seen so many well-meaning people still putting out sanitiser and encouraging people to wash hands this summer which is good for general hygeine of course, but won't protect against an airborne virus 🤦

@pollyrowena I just recovered from Covid and my partner took it as a reason she doesn’t have to mask anymore, I’m so upset.

@thegod_janus oh no! I'm so sorry. Hope she realises very quickly (and without incidence!) that's not how it works and can be a real partner in it, and show her love and consideration in a meaningful way. Sending all strength to you.

@pollyrowena The pandemic has been over for more than a year. It ended when immunity shifted the dynamics. It's why we can no longer achieve infection levels of the omicron surge.

@JackTors11245 Maybe, just maybe, they wouldn't tell you if your attitude about it is such that you're going out of your way to tell strangers who clearly do feel like this about it? Maybe you're not a good listener, or someone people trust with their concerns or to be honest with. 🤷

@pollyrowena if they're ignoring risks they're obviously incapable of showing solidarity

@themediawitch I've gone through waves of thinking this but I've also seen people go back to thinking more carefully about it, over 2 years on from Boris' "freedom day" here in the UK. I have to keep hope that people can learn and improve behaviour, and I have seen it, but it's SLOW.

@pollyrowena I have people I know who are high risk. They have faith in this thing called modern medicine. They are getting a new booster shot, and when they had Covid, they took antivirals, and were fine. They trust their doctors, not online doomer rhetoric.

@jwilcox79 Here in the UK most of us can't get boosters, most people haven't had a vaccine since 2021 and we have no access to anti-virals, but thanks for assuming everyone has the same healthcare access as you! (or that you know anything about my stance on "modern medicine").
