This is true of any public good (transit! parks! libraries!) and progressives fail by ignoring it. Almost nothing you do matters if you don't maintain public safety and order. I'd have thought the election of Eric Adams in 2021 taught NYC Dems that, but only a little.
And of course, from a government run store in KC --- anyone whose not a blind ideologue, who has any experience with these neighborhood, knows SAFTEY IS THE ISSUE.

Some are, some aren't. But even before this news, international tourism was dropping, because of Trump rhetoric. Down $12.5 billion this year. NYC specifically has cut its forecast for international tourists in 2025 by 17%. Meanwhile, international travel is booming elsewhere.

The way people talked in 2023/2024, youād have thought the average American had a spreadsheet on their phone tracking weekly variances in food prices over many years, and all that. Now, people are largely š¤·š»āāļø. Biden was boring, and had bad vibes. Ultimately came down to that.
Last year, tons of people were apoplectic about food prices, yet today you rarely hear about them at all ā even though many food prices are *higher*. Why do you think that is?.
