TALK TALK
Almost unclassifiable, it's impossible even to describe it to somebody and do it justice. There are certainly people who don't fully understand it. This is one of the most beautiful albums whose ability to touch your soul and drive emotion. Timeless.
This fabulous album was released on this day in 1986. Referred to as a 'bridge' between their earlier pop songs and their later post-rock, there are signposts on here towards both. It elevated the band and gave them some big hits, particularly with 'Life's What You Make It'.
@NazShahBfd
- Since when has it stopped being okay to say something in case it's "offensive" to someone?
- When does seeing people's faces = Islamophobia?
- Why, when you're "offended", do you assume that this same comment is automatically "offensive" to the population as a whole?
Today is the 40th Anniversary of The Chameleons' debut album, originally released on 8th August 1983 in the UK.
Starting all guns blazing with 'Don't Fall' and ending with the sublime 'View From A Hill', it's an incredible tour-de-force of an album.

I mentioned to someone earlier about hidden music in the "pre-gap" on CDs. Not all CD players can play them, but essentially you rewind the disc (press [<<]) to *before* the first track. There are tons of discs which contain a song in the pre-gap.

Eno encouraged them to bring "ideas, not songs" and be more experimental. They recorded things, reversed the tape, slowed the tape to half-speed, re-recorded instrumentation, and tried lots of new ways of working, deeply outside of their comfort zone. It worked.

Anybody who has heard the hybrid of shoegaze, industrial & electronica of Curve will tell you that 'Lillies Dying' and 'The Ice That Melts The Tips' are seminal tracks. Some might lean more towards Ride's 'Going Blank Again', but Doppelgänger is every bit as good.
