I performed an impromptu afternoon set yesterday in Staffordshire, playing a bunch of new songs. Thanks so much to the host, Julie, for allowing me to play her guitar.

3. Colours Of Our Day (Remix) The inclusion of a 'remix' is arguably sometimes an excuse for a record label to extend a band's catalogue, though it really came into its own in the '90s when dance music came to the fore. 1/4

if I could put together something that he - and all of us - would enjoy hearing. I premiered the track as the intro music at a recent gig, where he was in the audience, and he was absolutely thrilled with what I've put together. 3/3

I decided to ask my Dad to record a poem written almost 150 years ago. I didn't initially explain the reasons why, but it's twofold - firstly, I get to own a recording of him so that I can always hear his voice; and secondly, I wanted to add music around the poem to see 2/3

4. The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls This was a simple idea. My Father is 90 years old, and I have precious few recordings of him. It's funny how we go through life taking photos, particularly on our phones, but rarely record sound, even when the conversation is interesting. 1/3

vocal effects, replaced the drums. In fact, most of the original recording was considered fair game. It feels almost like a new song. 'Colours' was a close contender for this single, but quite a few people have mentioned how much they really like 'Shoreline'. 3/4

I've previously never considered remixing one of my own songs, but the temptation proved too great for this EP. This is really more a reimagining of 'Colours Of Our Day', rather than a remix. I've pulled the guitars right back in the mix, added lots of strings, changed the 2/4

songs, so I've made the decision to release it as part of this EP. I love performing 'The Ill Wind'. There's a twist in the lyrics, so you'll likely be wondering if the song is literal or metaphorical. I'll leave that one for you to decide. 2/2

2. The Ill Wind Since the release of the album, I've been busy beavering away on a bunch of new songs. 'The Ill Wind' was penned with this in mind, but somehow it just doesn't fit quite right amongst the other songs, and better suits the feel of the 'Answers On A Postcard' 1/2

There's a reference to a 'storm on the way', which is something that often seems to happen in an effort to trip us up in life. 4/4

I remember looking out of the window, with the sea just 15 metres away. We can all identify with a shoreline whether it's a windy beach in England, or wandering along a faraway shore. 'Shoreline' is the place we all go when we want to think about stuff. 3/4

structure for 'Shoreline', and the melody followed soon after. It's slightly unusual in that the song is written in 3/4 timing. A friend's parents used to own a small place by the sea in Staithes, North Yorkshire, and they'd allow me to stay there for a weekend. 2/4

My 'Shoreline' EP is released tomorrow. Here are a few thoughts on each of the songs: 1. Shoreline Around twelve months ago, I was invited to perform at a festival and wanted to write something special for the set. Around two weeks before the gig, I came up with the chord 1/4
