The stereotype of academics as snowflakes is generally undeserved. The far left politics in academia are correlated with traits like neuroticism. But insofar as it’s possible at all to have serious conversations about sensitive topics, it’s relatively likely to happen with a PhD.

I don’t ultimately agree with the impulse, but I understand why so many academics/intellectuals gravitate to anti-capitalist ideologies. There is something disconcerting about observing and reflecting on who wins in market-based economies.
