An RCT of #ACL reconstruction found that patients are more likely to present knee arthrosis and inferior outcomes regardless of initial graft tension when compared to uninjured matched control subjects at 15 years. https://t.co/B7sgwdzJgh

Train the athlete to perform under direct stressors - fast turnovers with change of direction, chaotic scenarios - all avoiding 'low' knee flexion, having the foot wide of body, and an externally rotated leg at the time of foot contact during change of direction the 'BIG 3'

3. Re-injury risk is likely dictated by more complex factors - how we move and how the body deals with 'risky' scenarios under pressure has been shown in our data to be relevant on re-injury risk. Recovery of this is not a function of time in rehab, it needs targeted intervention

2. Rehab is not a linear function of time - even in professional athletes. As you'll see from our data the elapsed time post surgery does not predict when athletes will 'normalise' their physical function. Each of them moves at a different pace

Some important lessons to consider if you're working with ACL athletes: 1. Correlation is not causation - there may be an element of 'survivorship' on re-injury risk beyond a certain time period. Biology should be respected, but it is not the only relevant factor to consider

There are a few stated reasons why clinicians' will often rely heavily on elapsed time from injury - graft maturity post-surgery, as well as some association with delayed RTP carrying a reduced re-injury risk. A longer period can also allow a more thorough rehab process

Common mistake during ACL rehab. If there was a crucial aspect that often gets missed during rehab, what would that be? Listen to the full interview with @_timmcgrath & @pitch_ready on... Spotify: https://t.co/xF6MQTVYAp iTunes: https://t.co/2Znp2hajaF
