Pretty wild that @calmfund wrote its first investment check this month 5 years ago. I just published a big look back essay on what went right, what went wrong, and what I've learned (link in bio) Not sure how to share this stuff now, so would appreciate the amplification 🙏

5. Looking at the present vs future Buy a system that fits your company over the next 5 yrs, not today. These are hard to rip and replace. Similarly, look for systems that will evolve with the times - who is using AI in smart ways (employee help desk, etc)

4. Letting a project drag Like any major system change, a new HR suite is a lot of work. What should take 2 months can stretch into 6. This loss of momentum means lower adoption of power features.

3. Focusing on cost alone Modern HRIS's do more than keep track of employee information. They allow scalable onboarding, culture insights, employee engagement, and a whole lot more. There is ROI here if you know where to look.

2. Using existing vendors, just because Many companies buy their HRIS/ATS from their payroll vendor simply because they have a relationship already. For the most part, these companies are relying on their existing relationship, not a great product, to sell you these solutions.

1. Delegating to non-systems thinkers Your HRIS is not a check the box solution for most companies. This is the core People OS for your org, and needs to be chosen by someone with an understanding of your strategy + future + other tooling

US fed, state and city governments need to make it easier to employ their citizens as remote workers. Dealing with state of NY or city of Philadelphia decreases employees' attractiveness relative to someone who lives in a place where paperwork + various insurance aren't needed.

Try to do something this week to help someone else in a way that has nothing to do with politics. It will make you feel better. And it will be a small but measurable step in helping heal our world.

Companies need to use an ATS that doesn't require people to completely rework their resume. It's 2020, if your ATS can't parse a resume, it's time for an update. @bestb2bsoftware will help you find a good one. #jobhuntchat
