Why do you need a DAS when you already have carrier grade Wi-Fi APs blanketing your airport? And the ability to flip a switch and point them at major carriers? You don't. Watch this space. And send me some screenshots of your phone connected to Helium APs at BWI.

Historically, these are Distributed Antenna System (DAS) deployments. DAS is also short for "a very expensive set of small cellular radios that also costs a boat load to install and maintain.".

Nearly all airports outsource their mobile connectivity. If you're an AT&T sub waiting for your LAS flight at SFO, your phone will say AT&T but it's probably not connected to their towers. The radios are deployed by a vendor that has a deal with BWI and the carriers.

Now, the lead up to this deployment took some time (a few months), and it was led by a network deployment company (usually called an "MSP") that deploys Hotspots and does deals with venues. Professional grade crushers. But once all parties were onboard, the flip was switched.

This deployment was done via Helium Plus, which lets you enable carrier-grade Wi-Fi APs to offload data for HM and some/all of our carrier partners. (These support HM, AT&T, GoogleFi, WeFi.) ~72% of all radios on Helium are Helium Plus as of today.

Yesterday, ~242 Wi-Fi APs that were already deployed in BWI were added to the Helium Network. In the 15 hours these have been live, >9k handets have fired over >1.1TBs of mobile data through these radios!.

L1 DAUs can be inflated by bots, but it’s notable that Helium’s 1.16M (real) daily active users surpass the combined DAUs of Ethereum, Toncoin, and Arbitrum. $HNT's market cap is approximately 0.14% of the combined value of these L1s. 🤔👀
