I feel sad that the most important thing to post today was this section of this document. Some of us continue to be praying for more grace, kindness, understanding and genuine dialogue. And some of us thought that yesterday was another important step on that long journey. 4/4.

Yesterday’s vote in @synod is not viewed as the beginning of a sexual revolution, but a step forward towards better care for and behaviour towards LGBTQ+ people. And one thing that continues to be very different is the scrutiny of non-heterosexual relationships in the Church. 3/4.

Many of us wounded by it, and the behaviours it had allowed, know more than many the continued division, the length of the road there still is to travel on the Church’s understanding of relationships and sexuality, and the deep pain of the (slow) LLF process. 2/4.

It is important for us all to remember that ‘saying goodbye to ‘Issues in Human Sexuality’’ was most importantly about ‘saying goodbye’ to an outdated, misappropriated, homophobic and in many other ways discriminatory document, and the behaviours that document legitimated 1/4.

I don’t believe this can be a both/and conversation (with regard to palliative care) until we address the chronic underfunding of and misunderstanding around effective palliative care.

This would be a completely different conversation if there was, first, a debate around & better funding of palliative care, and, secondly, if this Bill had come a different way, with better checks and balances.
