Already two weeks ago, when I was driving to Barcelona Wine Week, I saw the first almond trees flowering in La Rioja Baja and Aragon after another soft winter. There has been quite a bit of rain, which is good, but frost will be a big risk again for many fruit crops.

The Rioja heist. This weekend, as part of our centenary, we sponsored the Goya movie awards, and had 2 special edition large format bottles signed by actors, directors, etc. Later that night they disappeared from the scene. Investigation is underway. Let's hope we find them back!

I'm done with Musk. Zuck scares me just as much after his marketing makeover and the recent moderation lift. Tiktok is not my thing and has its own issues. There is a gaping void for a new ethical (European?) social network. The tech is not all that hard and the time is right.

I needed to kick off Spanish wine after @bcnwineweek, and also start training for the @vilaviniteca blind tasting competition. I would have called this Spätburgunder, certainly with this age and oak treatment. Any tips on how to get to Sankt Laurent? Nice wine btw. #austrianwine

Interesting presentation today at @unirioja by @vitisnavarra on adapting to climate change by selecting the right plant material. Not only varieties but also clones and rootstocks can have a significant impact on ripening, yields, pH, alcohol levels, etc.

Quick poll for wine professionals. I am preparing a tasting of wines from very old vineyards. How would you prefer to taste the wines? In a logical order by style of the wine (e.g. whites then reds, from light to full)? Or by age of the vineyards, thus mixing styles all the time?

Not very common to come across a magnum of 2016 Riesling at a wine bar in Logroño. I never heard of R Prüm. Not at the level of JJ or SA, but still quite enjoyable.

Christmas day wines. No need to overindulge or bring out anything super fancy with the family that is not all that much into wine. Just some reliable Spanish classics that deliver. And so they did. ¡Salud & Feliz Navidad!

Depopulation in rural areas is a big issue in Spain. However, in villages focused on winegrowing, the population has increased with 36% in the last 20 years, whereas in other villages it decreased 10%. This is the social part of sustainability in wine that few people talk about.
