Went to our other #vineyard today, in #Labastida, 10km to the west. Hardly any hail damage here and grapes not looking too bad, but there are signs of mildiu, yesca and other problems if you look for them. Never an easy year in #Rioja.

Pretty happy with this, 2023 "ex Rosado" after 16 months in #barrel. We pick grapes for Rosé, sangrar the max out of them possible, about 450L/t, then put normal grapes on top and ferment cool at 20ºC with less pumpovers. Tastes really fruity plus brls have rounded it out #Rioja

Oh no, got hit by #hail at the weekend. Same #vineyard, east-facing quite a lot of damage, west-facing not so bad. It's turning out to be a tricky year in #Rioja.

#Racking #barrels this morning, which means transferring all the clean wine out, but leaving behind the lees, then washing the barrels and putting the wine back. Has been 15 months, a bit too long probably, but who knows? The wine seems fine and better for it. #Rioja #Reserva.

Amazing cool weather break in #Logrono. Just 19ºC / 66ºF at noon on the 12th July, an amazing opportunity to get my flat's temperature back down to comfortable.

#Storms in the forecast for La #Rioja and other parts of N&E #Spain this weekend. Right now looks like a direct hit in eastern Rioja, with another one closing in on Haro. Bad news, but if there are big grape losses it might change the market, this year currently favouring buyers

Attempt number 2 at blending my 2022 #Reserva. Back to basics this time round. Think I'm making progress, but still not quite there #Rioja

Bit underwhelmed with this number. Big firm, with a big reputation, but I just found this wine a bit shy and lacking in direction. Would much rather go bog standard mac carb numbers for half the price, or something a bit more premium. What's it trying to be?

#Blending session, before and after. Was 3 hrs on it, stained all the floor and broke 2 glasses. Not ideal. Don't even like the results! Back to the drawing board in #Rioja.

Out in the #vineyards this morning. Classic summer conditions, gentle north breeze keeping a lid on temperatures and bringing clouds and persistent light drizzle to the Sierra de Cantabria mountains. But the sun is also trying to break through. #Rioja #RiojaAlavesa

Starting to notice more of these non-vintage #Rioja #wines around, #CVC = a blend of various years. Either to make a more complex wine, to make a more consistent wine, to make a better blend than the components, or possibly to blend away problem years.

A few pics from last night in #Logroño

Interesting limited-production clarete from close to Pamplona. Just 1000 bottles made. We're lucky to get to try this kind of thing in Logroño, with a few open-minded winebars giving us locals some non-Rioja things to try to keep us on our toes.

Yes! Thanks for correcting me. May for a new #winefair in #Madrid could make sense. Allows people who make more interesting whites and rosés not to have to rush them out for BWW or Paris and broader city-wide events should work well in the spring. Will it kill-off Fenavin?.
