I left the apartment yesterday and found a giant skylight. I came home today and thought I heard someone saying "For the love of God, Montresor."

(It was acute diverticulitis; I needed IV antibiotics. Diverticular disease is common after 40 and often asymptomatic. They're usually detected on a routine colonoscopy or if they cause issues. Mine decided to announce its existence in rather spectacular fashion.)

Back home after a 3-day emergency hospital stay. I'm ok and on the mend now. Pro-tip: if you go to the ER on your own, bring a phone charger even if you don't think they'll keep you more than a couple of hours. (I had a powerbank; friend brought charger the next day.)

More than half the socks in the drawer haven't been used in years because they just feel *wrong*. So I can just go ahead and toss them? Huh. How about that.

I started having a very uncharitable opinion of jackhammers at 1:24 a.m. and it is unlikely to change before the fifteenth of April.

Practice should be about bringing you closer to what works for you: what feels fluid to you, what keeps you moving forward in the grand scheme of things. Others can give you new ideas, but they can never be your foundation. That belongs only to you!

To understand how to use this escape route, you first have to understand the trap we're in. The core of it is this: we've been facing a global pandemic, but some rich governments have been trying to treat it like a national or regional problem.

I got called “emotional” most of my life, but I think almost everyone’s emotional. People who say “I’m not emotional, I’m logical” don’t recognize that deciding the world operates by simple rules & ignoring feelings for the illusion of predictability is a charged emotional choice
