Today, we've published the results of our major new study into the prevalence of Parkinson’s in the UK. With this, we're also offering support to signpost your patients to the new information. Read about the study and how it may impact on your practice:
Parkinson’s is on the rise in the UK, and our new research suggests thousands more people are living undiagnosed. Our Director of External Relations, Juliet Tizzard, tells us more. For help and support, call our helpline: 0808 800 0303. For more info: https://t.co/OkfihYrAxh

Catching up on @moversand6 pod about #relationships and #Parkinsons… I was really struck by how often the word #communication came up. Can we help relationships by improving everyday communication with Parkinson's? 🤔

Through @BCDParkinsons I have been so fortunate to work with a hugely inspiring set of people affected by #Parkinsons. They have shown huge strength and resolve in dedicating their time and expertise to improve the lives of others. Today (World Parkinson's Day) I celebrate you 👏

Back in touch with our #PPI groups and building a PPI network to plan the next stage of @BCDParkinsons research 🥳. A huge thank you to Hema’s café @ParkinsonsUK for people with #Parkinsons for having me in Leicester last week.

Talking with others is very important. Some people have changes in their brain which make it hard to talk. We are making something that can be used to make talking feel easier and fun. By helping people with talking we hope people will feel happier and good about themselves.

Had a really brilliant talk from @LizStokoe about building research impact with @BCAphasia @BCPPAphasia. And now I’m on #upgoerfive trying to summarise our @BCDParkinsons project using the top 1000 words & in 280 characters. Here’s my attempt so far...

Brilliant @ParkinsonsEN SLT meeting this morning - great to know there’s a fab swallow screen service improvement project by @hhornby_SLT and support from @ParkinsonsUK and tech companies like @BVSpeech to improve #SLT services for people with #Parkinsons

Catching up on some literature and found this article a brilliant analysis of how #SLT support needs to adjust to the phase of #Parkinsons and level of family involvement needed – an unexpected name check for @BCDParkinsons was also a lovely bonus 🥳
A brilliant reminder of the importance of including family in #SLT therapy for people living with #Parkinsons. And that it’s complicated – “managing communication strategies” can increase burden. Tailored interventions are needed for different phases.

Returning to the @BCDParkinsons project has been exciting and exhausting (mostly the juggling with a very mobile 1 year old)… On #WorldParkinsonsDay2024 I am VERY grateful to be back working with the fantastic members of our #coproduction #PPI groups and research participants

Very excited to have SLTs to talk to and lots of exciting ideas related to care for people living with #Parkinsons today at the @ParkinsonsEN #SLT conference - makes a change from usual between-baby-feeds entertainment! Looking forward to the development of specific guidelines

Our co-researchers are involved in lots of other important #Parkinsons research and projects... can't wait to hear more about this one and the impact of samba for people living with Parkinsons!
This is a project funded by @Arts_Wales_ to explore the benefits taking part in samba percussion for those in the #Parkinson Community. Partners are Cardiff Branch of @ParkinsonsUK and @barracwda

Signing off Twitter and the fabulous @BCDParkinsons project for a bit to go on maternity leave, but looking forward to resurfacing (from who knows what kind of chaos!) for @BCconf2023 in November 😊 🥳

An important read for any #SLT #AHP #medic #nurse #professional working with people with primary progressive aphasia - a powerful insight to living with loss of communication skills.
Out of the darkness of primary progressive aphasia, Rory Barnes' poems https://t.co/YrBnS3xrBT shine a light on the blessing of speech - and how we might endure its loss

Before the out of office goes on, just treated myself to some time catching up on the @RCSLT and @mndassociation annual Stephen Hawking lecture by @steven_bloch about communication in #MND. Would highly recommend to #SLT , #AHP and people interested in conversation.
