Trying to wrap my head around what Walter Isaacson would have written about Charles Lindbergh, and Lindbergh as a proto-Musk figure.

As part of this awareness, I would like you all to bookmark https://t.co/tcegMkrf7M. it lists all such websites that give away books and papers for free and also tells which websites are up and which mirrors work. I repeat, don't visit these websites!! #libgen

We have a long tradition of welcoming morally decrepit scientists from evil regimes to advance science and industry but we appear to have forgotten they are never to be trusted in matters of politics or society more broadly.

This is an excellent summary of Musk’s takeover of the Treasury from @NYMag’s @chasdanner, with quotes from WSJ, NYT, WaPo, and my op-ed from @MSNBC yesterday. But this quote from @smotus is right on the money. This isn’t efficiency. It’s a coup. https://t.co/XivGG5Zz2H

Battle of Marathon is here. It is not basic narration of events. It's quite historically accurate where possible and wonderfully fictionalized where not. It's a series, but you can dive in. https://t.co/RsrFnvz9gx Might love, might hate, but you have not heard this story.

legit fuming over libgen shutdown. especially in the light of meta training their ai on it. mining the most functional free library in the world to squeeze out these precious profits & turn the remains of the Internet into unusable sludge. then cutting out access to said library

When I imagine an interview with Thucydides talking about Pericles, this is more or less what I imagine.

"Rebellion in Ionia" Athens enjoyed a decade of peace after Sparta abandoned Eleusis. As the infant democracy found its footing, the city received a request for aid from its Ionian cousins in Miletus, now under thumb of Persia. https://t.co/LnihkLh4Vo

The Spartans in Eleusis: Young Aeschylus watches as the Spartans occupy his hometown, sacred Eleusis, as they await their allies. As his brother goes to war for Athens, he senses the net of destruction to fall upon Athens as it did at Troy. https://t.co/L5hB1MbJoA

Ok, I’m ready to start my “Public Defender Menswear” blog. Why public defender-specific? Because we don’t have the time or money to do half of what is typically recommended by online menswear experts. Also: we wear the crap out of our suits. Among other reasons. Here goes… 1/

Participatory paid democracy (ie broad participation in actual civic affairs management) tried in different ways in 5th BCE Athens and Switzerland is essential in a post-religious age to maintain collective sanity and collective efficacy. Welfare state is not enough.
